I just get the Wheel Stud Recall for my 2012 3500 - I thought the recall was for newer models?

I just got another postcard for this recall. I am the only one to remove and reinstall the wheels on my truck. Not going in.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to get (free) new studs installed on a 12 year old vehicle.....

Yeah except the fact in small print on the bottom it reminds you of the 67a recall to for the Emmissions. I received the postcard along with my father and it is just a lure tactic to get the truck in the shop to do both. Not happening.

The emission recall does not apply to the 2012, it's only the 13+ trucks that use DEF.

But I get it...

No it is for all models reason over torquing. They used to torque the wheels at 140 foot lbs. New torque standard are 128 foot lbs.140 was stretching the studs and result the wheel shears the studs then big problems happen. Get it done for safety if nothing else.

Seems strange that the recall would be only for 3500 pickup, 4500 and 5500 CC trucks.
Why would the 2500 trucks like mine where the owners manual states 140lb wheel nut torque not be involved?

Is your 2500 a conical nut?
The 3500+ drw trucks are a Flanged nut that may obtain a higher clamping load at that same torque. Because of that 140ftlb on a flanged nut can stretch the stud weakening it.
Hope that's clear.

To add, the conical has a higher friction surface area so it will hit a torque value quicker with less force.
