Good afternoon everyone. I have been around this site and various other sources in an attempt to seek proper advice for winter rims for my 2021 5th gen 1500 longhorn which comes with 22 low profile. Has anyone actually fitted 18” wheels with higher profile tires?
I am leaning toward buying 4 Tradesman steel wheels 18” but nobody including dealer will confirm they fit. Apparently some 18” do and other aftermarket don’t!
My spare is an 18” but again nobody can confirm if it the same off set etc as the steel tradesman. Tires are not the issue, it is the rims first and foremost.
Sod’s law says that my old perfectly brilliant 17” from my 2017 Longhorn do not fit!
Thanks in advance!

Just to be clear, you can use any 5th gen wheel on any other 5th gen. So you will have no problems running 18 inch Tradesman wheels on your Longhorn. Aftermarket wheels are a different story. Like you were told, some will fit and some will not clear the calipers. I haven't ever seen a list of these, and have only read where people have had issues with some aftermarket wheels.

As far as the wheels from your '17 Longhorn, you're right. You can't use them. I wasn't familiar with "Sod's law" so I looked it up. Apparently it's the British version of "Murphy's law". Welcome to 'merica!

well, that was easy! Why was it so difficult for the dealer to do this? wanted to confirm off sets, calipers etc etc.
many thanks, I will cough up for a set of steel Tradesmans wheels i think!
Incidentally, I have been here since 2013 and STILL have trouble getting people to understand me! As for spelling........................... colour, harbour.
I have had 3 Rams now, a 2014 Sport, 2017 Longhorn and now this one. I really didnt think about the problem of low profile tyres in winter till i read a post from one of our Canadian friends on this site which got me to thinking. We get alot of snow in Northern Wisconsin.

Okay thanks I will. Found some online at a dealer for $118 each which is pretty good as my local place wants $170.
Of course, then I have postage, that’s not just a stamp either!

CincyZach thanks for that video…..those rims are REALLY tight. Maybe the original tradesman ones I am looking at clear more. I don’t wanna buy fancy, just steel and practical. But the video proves it can be done!

Welcome! Yes extremely tight, hopefully the OEM steel ones have a little more clearance. Be sure to post some pics when you have it all done!

Hey, By the way CincyZach. Which air deflector have you fitted? i just got an ERG, dark smoke but seems more bronze in sunlight. On a black truck doesnt look right. Good fit though.

I just picked up a set of 18 inch Rebel wheels last weekend to use with tires more suited for winter driving. I'm not even going to try running the stock 22's with Goodyear all seasons. I can already tell they will not do well in the wet snow and slush we get where I live.

I looked at the tread pattern and thought, oh s..t. There is NO cross tread at all!
I am also looking for 18s.
once I get to 50 posts, my 17” and snow tyres go up for sale to fit classics! What a waste. We all do it right?
My 2014 needed tyres, I bought and had them fitted, traded it less than a month later!
so the 17 I traded for this truck also needed tyres. I DIDNT do it this time and got knocked at trade in for $1000! For Goodyear wranglers. Can’t win can ya?

It's not just about tread pattern. Rubber composition has as much to do with winter traction as tread design. I won't bore anyone with details. There's plenty of information out there for anyone who is interested in learning about this topic. But I will say that if you get AT tires, make sure they are 3PMSF (3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake) rated. Look for this symbol...

No, you are right. I never go off road. I want snow and ice tyres.
sold my winter rims and General Grabber Artics today from my 2017 so I have some dosh to put towards new ones!
I must have sold them too cheap cos they were Grabbed all right.
would you fellas go 18” Oem or aftermarket? I want plain and simple. And I liked my General tyres and will probably do those again. My blizzaks on our family SUV are also phenomenal. Front wheel drive 3.5 l Rav 4 V6, 2007, goes everywhere we need it in the snow. I just CANT let the side down and use that for winter. I have to get those rims and tyres!

I chose the wheels I did because I like the look of the Rebel Blackout wheels, but mostly because 18 inch tires are generally less expensive than 20 or 22 inch tires. If you go aftermarket just make sure they will clear the front calipers. It's been mentioned quite a bit that not all aftermarket wheels will clear the calipers on 5th gen 1500's.

Thanks. I was kindly alerted to that by a member. CincyZach posted a video for me to watch where the gent fitted aftermarket 18 rims. They did fit………just. Not sure I would want them that close. You couldn’t get any closer to calipers without fouling. But I suppose if they miss they miss right? I am going OEM. Black if I can ( black truck) but I don’t really mind to be honest for winter. Up here in Bayfield WI nobody dresses themselves up in winter no matter their vehicles!
can I ask, did you buy new/refurbished/ second hand? Maybe where you got them if it was a regular site. I like what you said about Rebel wheels.
Thanks for the help. I am closing down on this purchase! Don’t wanna do it in October!

Do you happen to have a link for that video? I bought the wheels from a member on another 5th gen forum. He removed them the day he bought the truck and they're like new. I lucked out because he lives about an hour away do I was able to pick them up and didn't have to pay for shipping. I've seen lots of people selling their stock Rebel wheels so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a set. I would avoid buying them from a dealer if possible because of cost. I'm always looking for cool stuff for my truck, and I'll post up a link if I seen any Rebel wheels while I'm car porning.

That is weird. That video was posted in this thread by CincyZach but I cannot for the life of me find it. It was further back so I am not sure if they ‘disappear’ after a while or not. Sorry. Maybe he can help out? Seem a nice helpful man! There is even the reply from myself thanking him but no video link.

No worries, I was just curious. I have no current plans to buy any more wheels LOL. Thanks for checking.
