I've replaced the oil pressure sensor and camshaft sensor. But had code p1524 code pop up today. Wife took it to a shop today and had the truck scanned.

Mechanic mentioned using 10w30. Would this be recommended by anyone here.

Recently changed oil pump pan gasket and cleaned pick up tube and strainer.

Why is there so much info? Do you have a specific question about oil weight and a code? or is the question really just the mechanics suggestion on oil weight? mds engine? Is 0w40 your spec oil?

It is a point of constant argument and will never be settled. Might as well ask about pizza toppings :dogpile:

Recommended is 5w30. Only question is would the 10w30 be safe using or trying to bump up the pressure.

There would be no issue with 10w30 except it would flow less in cold temperatures, likely not much of an issue in Arkansas?

Well, there would be no real issue, but also no real benefit either, I wouldn't go dumping 5w30 just for 10w30. I'm not exactly sure what the mechanics suggestion was regarding. This is a very minor adjustment to any lubrication strategy.

In some oils 10w30 is just sae 30. It is trading a mutli grade oil for a mono grade. Basically removing vii's from your valve train. So I'm not sure how this benefits a specific condition, but generally it is desirable, but not desirable enough to waste fresh oil.

Did your mechanic test the psi? How far out of range was it? Did you pay him?

Search ram forum for code questions, this shouldn't be an oil question.

Here is your answer.

Did not pay the mechanic. Since I rebuilt the top end of the motor psi has been upper 50's cold to mid to around 33 warmed up

I have 210k on mine rebuilt top end at 170k 25 psi at idle hot using 5w30 your fine. if you still have the code its a electrical issue either bad sensor or pinched wire make sure its not pinched behind the power steering pump I have done that.

Had a rewards credit at autozone. Been using fram so I went and got a mobile 1 high performance. Didn't change oil. Just filter. Pressure went from 47 psi with fram to 68 psi with Mobil 1 on startup. Obviously having a filter issue.

If the mobil 1 performs better til oil change I'll never go back to fram.

Which fram did you have? Not fram ultra? Can you cut filter open? How many miles on filter? This all could be very valuable to the forum.

Maybe 200 miles on the filter. Wasn't fram. It was an Stp.

There are definitely better filters out there. Burla I read somewhere that STP filters are really only supposed to be used with conventional oil. Any truth to that?

It doesn't show that exact filter, but there is a potential issue as you see they don't list the psi of the bypass here. Clearly this is the issue imo, the question is was it a bad filter or an issue with the line. Need to find the bypass psi, more sleuthing is needed.

It appears like everything else stp has a synthetic blend filter similar to m1, but that isn't it. I would never use either to be honest, I'd never use anything but 100% synthetic filter with a good bypass. Pressure code is actually a good thing, if you leave something like that for an oci that means your cam isn't being lubed as it should for that period, and as we know big time issue for a hemi. No reason to make it worse. Anyhow OP, good find, good strategy replacing filter, teachable moment here on ram forum for all to appreciate.

Nothing wrong with castrol gtx HM oil, here is voa.

I don't see a lot from stp on oil filters, so I would never run it. Some guys who looked into them think they are clones to walmart super tech filters made by champ labs on bitog. But I cant find no tech into on stp.com or oil filter data, so I'm not going to go further. You have to make info easy to find, if someone is interested to go further with it, kudo's.
