I had a F150 4 x 2 in MAINE and survived many winter with no issue with snow,, BUT my RAM is a 4x4 which I have hardly used but like the feel of the 4x4 in snow. So in Maine I will stay 4x4 for my truck in Fla. when I get into the snowbird stage will be a 4x2 . So all in all it is what makes you feel good :)

Cork Screw, huh? Don't think I have one.

In the truck, I have a a multi tool, jumper cables, and strangely a small survival kit for the the Afghan Desert. Got a lot of nifty stuff in it that I'll probably never use, but...

I've had about 6 PU's in my life, all 2wd.
Made it thru the ice and snow in Chicago for 60 years without issue just like I did with all my cars.
If you need a working vehicle, (towing, plowing, etc) or go off-roading that's a different story, but for a daily driver 4wd is mostly unnecessary. I laugh at all the new truck guys with their expensive 4wd rigs that the only time in their life the went in the dirt was because they lost control.
Now living retired in Central FL and have absolutely no need for a 4x4 or the extra cost and maintenance involved. My 2006 ST 2dw will be with me till the end most likely. ;)

The vast majority of 4x4 PU owners who think they need 4x4 seriously could get along fine w/o it if they didn't have it. That includes me too, if I have to be honest about it. No doubt, for many, gets them into more trouble than w/o. Like the lady in an explorer who blew by me on icy roads, lost control and spun a couple times until she plowed right into a rock wall (fortunately didn't get seriously hurt). That kind of crap happens all the time.

Plus, in snow country, in my area, the plow guys are on the roads with plows and salt sooner than they were 25 years ago, and do a much better job. There's probably one or two days a year Max around here where you could really get good use out of 4x4, but if ya wait an hour or two (when it's safer to drive anyway), the roads get cleared up. I drive a car mostly and snow's never stopped me from doing what I need to do. When I grew up (on a farm) all we had were 2wd trucks (and cars). None of the local farmers had 4x4. Getting stuck didn't happen that often, you just respected the limits. Pulling hay, heavy loads, mud ...it worked ok. If you needed to go somewhere really muddy up to your knees, you took the tractor. But for farm and really rough terrain, 4x4 worked better, but if you don't have locked diffs (which we didn't) you could still get stuck pretty easy. And some trucks like light-weight 4x4 Toyota's are awful in snow.

But nowadays, it's a lot cheaper so it's not a bad option to have. Everything I own is 4x4. I wouldn't own a truck w/o it ...even though I rarely use it (I admit). And you need it for plowing snow. Obviously there are a few folks who live in areas or use their truck where 4x4 is an absolute MUST. Especially in the mountains and high country. I get that.

I Dont think a/c is an option anymore. Pretty sure it’s stamdard equipment on all vehicles now

Base model 2dr Jeep Wrangler, AC is a option. That is about the only one I know of. There may be a few more stragglers that are special order fleet deletes but for all intents though, it is a unicorn to find a new vehicle without AC.

I can see that as an option in a wrangler lol. I stand corrected

Well, I just got 22.4 mpg hand-calculated on my first 356 miles. The Pentastar and the 4X2 drive train contributed to that. I'll be honest and own up if and when I get stranded because I don't have a 4X4.
There's some real truth in what Jeepwalker said about growing up on a farm with 2-wheel drive trucks that "got her done" when folks knew the limits and knew their equipment.
It's kind of like how Fred Bear "got her done" wearing red wool plaid and shooting wood arrows and a recurve bow archery hunting 60 years ago. A lot of bowhunters today in head-to-toe $300 camo and shooting a $1,000 compound have trouble wrapping their heads around this. Fred just knew his quarry and knew his equipment.
Stefan: Give up my AC? NEVER!

Sure going to **** off guys who dumped thousands into their 4x4 jacked-up rigs, when they coulda just went and bought a full-sized sedan or a cumfey Towne Car! :)

Canada-why4x4-set to 4wd auto if you have that option-computer will know if you need it ,even in the rain-makes a hell of a difference going up an icy hill-resale value, hard to sell a 2wd up here-any extra you paid for it will come back to you should you re-sell it and it will sell a whole lot faster-lets be honest-a 4x4 has a nicer more muscular stance-my 2 cents!

My brother and I both bought 2017 sports, mine is 2x4, his is 4x4
The stance was identical before I put my shell on and he leveled the front

Never-enough, that was my understanding as well -- identical clearance, angle of attack and angle of departure, if I remember right.
