tomorrow I’ll be adding cab clearance lights. Have to drill 15 holes in the roof. A bit nervous but excited to add the lights!

I will for sure, found the OEM kit on amazon for $97 with the drill template. Just something unnerving about drilling holes in the roof of a 2018 truck!
Yeah there is! But I assume you wouldn't do it if you didn't have the skill. Take lots of pics

I got some for Christmas, tinted them and everything. But I’m still scared to drill! I can’t find the time to do it either, because I want to take my time. And I have yet to figure out how I’m going to get to the middle to drill those holes.

Its only nerve racking drilling the first hole:D From there on its no big deal. Take your time laying out the template, and measure like 15x, lol. Drop the front half of the headliner, and use something to catch all the metal shards like a cut open trash bag. Oh god there were a lot of metal shards!

Agreed about the metal shavings. Gonna be a mess. I did the same years ago with a buddies F250 but we used a carpet remnant to catch them. Cut to fit from a-pillar to a-pillar and draped from the base of the windshield across the dash to the front seat backs. When done, fold in half and toss in the trash.
Only other tips is use a spring loaded punch to score the metal so the bit does not walk and use only new quality bits. Pay a bit extra for dedicated metal bits with a fine point to start your hole. Use a small bit for a pilot then step up to the size bit needed for the fastener to be used. Oh and for the center lights, he had some scaffolding set up and we pulled the truck under the boards to make the needed holes. Good luck with the install.

I used a hole saw and the 6mm bit but 90% of my shavings were on the outside roof and not much at that. When I pulled out the trash bag there wasn’t much shavings at all. That metal is so thin it’s ridiculous. I cleaned up the outside shavings after each hole because it was somewhat windy and I didn’t want the shavings down my windshield wiper area.

My truck is tall, I used a step ladder to do the holes on mine. It’s similar to this one with the wide top step, got it at lowes or HD

Ugh ... I love the look of the clearance lights, but I would not be drilling holes in the roof of my truck.

The last vehicle I owned had factory clearance lights and they leaked like a basket. No amount of RTV could keep them from leaking.

You have a nice, sealed, metal sheet ... don't punch holes in it unnecessarily.

I installed mine 11 months ago and haven’t leaked a drop.

However my factory 3rd brake light and sharkfin both have leaked

I was able to reach the center light just standing on the door sill, I couldn’t reach it from the ladder though.
The install isn’t bad at all, took me 2 hours.

Very pricy but look cool if they work. The OEM kit was $97 and 2 hours to install.

Drilling holes in the roof is kinda like getting a tattoo, there's no turning back. Just curious, how does this affect resale value?
