I swapped a uconnect 5.0 into my truck just about a year ago. Several times no I have had this strange issue where the sound will quit working. Everything else on the radio appears to be fine just no audio, no volume bar when I twist the knob.

This is from when the first time it happened. https://www.ramforum.com/threads/2013-2018-ra2-vp2-na-radio-notes.87900/#post-1657310

It eventually fixes it self over a couple days time. Since this has been happening I bought a spare radio in case it doesn't fix it self. I tested the spare when I got it and it worked so I put it in the closet until I needed it. Now the issue has arose again so I went ahead and swapped in my spare. The spare is showing the same condition with the volume. Which leads me to believe the issue is on the truck side not the radio. I have checked the wiring diagram but I don't see any amps or anything that could cause any issues. I took a short video showing what the radio is doing. I would appreciate any input on what might be causing this. Thanks.

Posting here to keep track of things. The radio decided to start working again yesterday morning. Still don't know what's going on with it. I was starting to explore the connection between the radio and the bcm. Not sure if that's it or not.

So I'm not the only one this has happened too... I called navrepair and infotainment with no such luck. They said they'd only repair the screen which isn't the issue. I've tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and it's a hit or miss if it works. Currently I'm at work sitting in my truck wishing my radio would start working again.

This still happens to mine on occasion. On Saturday the radio worked fine in the morning, then later in the afternoon it was messed up again but started working again 10 min into my trip. Im still not sure whats causing it because on cold days its fine then on warmer days it messes up. The search continues.

I have the same issue in an 18 Laramie.

Was on the phone the other day, and all of a sudden the sound starts coming out of the left speaker only. I finish my phone call, and then nothing. No volume. When I twisted the knob it shows 18, but would not move. No radio, or music from my phone had volume.

I turned the truck off and came back to it 10 minutes later and it worked.

It's happened a couple of times, but the dealer just scratches his head.

Another update to this issue. My radio went out again this past Monday. It stayed out all week. I had searched again for a cause and got no where until I found a thread on here where a similar issue happened to someone with a radio obtained from infotainment. Infotainment told him to try a can-bus reset and it fixed his radio. Today I also tried this reset and my radio was back after I finished. I will post the instructions here for anyone else that needs them.

Can-bus reset:

Disconnect the positive and negative cables off battery.

Tap them together for 3 seconds.

Diesels undo both batteries and touch them one at a time.

Let truck sit for 10 minutes.

Reconnect battery.

Let truck sleep for 10-15 minutes.

Restart truck with engine running.

Test radio.

Hopefully this reset fully paired my radio to the truck and I won't have to reset it again. If not now I know what I can try.

I had this issue this morning on my way to work and not happy about it at all. I just got my truck Saturday and Monday I see the hood flex , today I hear no sound! Not off to a good start with this new truck! If the audio isnt working when I go back out, I might have to consider returning the truck! :(

Have any of you checked for updates on the UCONNECT site?
https://www.driveuconnect.com/support/software-update.html
Enter your VIN and it will indicate if an update is available for your radio. My '15 RA2 had an update recently but I swapped it out for an RA3.
My RA2 was randomly rebooting last fall that was most likely caused by a bad SXM force feed. I dont think that is the same as what is happening to yours though.

Mine is still doing the same thing. After numerous can bus resets. Some of those even did nothing. I am going to the dealer tomorrow. The service writer there is a friend and he is going to take a look at whats going on. I feel like the radio is trying to display the anti theft code screen but its not. If I could get that to somehow show up it would be fine. I hope they can program the radio to my truck somehow. My next step is going aftermarket but I really didnt want to.

Went out at lunch, and audio was working. (welcome to the twilight zone) Sure happy it worked, but really confused as to why it did not work this morning. Haven't had this long enough to do long term testing, but my first thought is did I accept the u-connect safety warning this morning or did I put it into reverse and go. Possibly if i had not accepted that the audio would not work? When I go back out after work I will try to recreate that scenario and see what happens! (Grasping at straws - not knowing for sure)

Update!

So after some more research I found a post on a diesel forum where those guys were having a similar issue to mine and it turned out to be a bad battery. So I started monitoring my battery. I have a usb c port I added in my dash that has a built in voltage meter in it. I watched this for a few days and if the truck sat for 3-4 days the voltage would drop consistently. I'm not sure what the voltage was when it caused the radio problems. I took my truck to Auto Zone and had them test the battery and charging system. Both tested as good but the guy said the internal temp of the battery was way high. I took this as a sign of a bad battery. I bought a new platinum battery from Advance Auto with a 25% off code I had. So far no more issues with the radio.

Just adding my 2cents...I have a 2016 1500 Bighorn, I installed a Motorola UHF radio and was having an issue with the radio rebooting. I had the ignition sense wire connected to the 12v cigarette lighter wire leg. I have come to find out that Dodge across the board doesn’t guarantee 12volts unless it is a primary/necessity powered device. It can go from 10-15v and the Motorola radio senses the ignition being shut off if it drops below 12v. I changed the ignition sense to the fuse for the fuel pump and have not had an issue.
You would think a radio is primary, someone else on the board might have better info on that. It may have been something along these lines and the bad battery would also add to this!

I’ve been fighting with Uconnect for 2 weeks. They installed a new radio (3.0). Same issue. They think it is the Bluetooth module which is not integrated in the radio. It is separate. I cannot have a phone connected to the radio without the radio freezing up. If no phone is paired, the radio is fine. But THATS NOT WHAT I PAID FOR!! I work out of my truck and make and receive a lot if calls in a day.

I’m pretty sure there is no separate Bluetooth module on 13+. The RBZ and RHB have a separate module for Bluetooth but those are pre-13 on the RAM. Have you tried to pair different phones to see if it helps?
