Cool looking Intake. I considered that before getting an S&B off a member here. Without the lower tube they look similar.

Thanks for the informative write up

You don't have to upgrade anything. You won't be anywhere near 600hp though, more like 500.
I also don't know anything about the 6 speed transmissions.
Bet you know they are a weak trans......LoL

Having the S&B with the lower scoop, if the dam was completely submerged the vacuum would strictly flow from the usual fender intake. It’s a natural bypass that most quality lower diving cold air intakes have for emergency protection.

This is a good point that I forgot to mention. If you go with the scoop, the Volant filter wrap is highly recommended. It will keep any water that makes it to the air box out of the filter. Water getting up into the intake box could be an issue with heavy rain at highway speeds. There is a drain hole in the back of the box in case this does happen. I will update if this is an issue.

As far as the scoop being submerged in water, the unit pulls air from the fender area in addition to the lower scoop. If the scoop was submerged in water it would most likely just pull air from there instead of sucking water up the tube...

Thanks. Hemi

After driving around this winter with the lower scoop on I can definitely say it does work. The salt residue says it all[emoji106]

If you go with the scoop I definitely recommend the pre filter because some water and dirt will find its way into the filter box.021d5455d966dcdbfd4ab02d321d7cef.jpg43ea20dbe6e3e442953f54718803fdf9.jpg

Had the S&B last June. Had some serious trouble with it and returned back to stock. After seeing this mines now arriving the 15th! Cant wait to get it installed and see how it does.

@Hemi395 Quick question though. How's the sound compared to stock? I'm sure it's throatier but is it significantly louder? That was a huge problem I had with the S&B that contributed to me returning it back to stock.

Awesome!!! Post some pics when you get it installed [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

It's virtually as quiet as the stock intake with maybe a bit more noise at WOT but nowhere near as loud as the S&B. I personally hated that sound....

Boom installed!! I just ran across a couple issues listed below.

upload_2020-4-14_21-58-11.png

My first issue was the ATS sensor. I could not for the life of me get it to seat all the way without pushing the entire rubber seal through the hole into the tube.... I even dabbed a tiny bit of silicone grease on there with no luck did the same thing over and over. I left it where its at I got no lights and its pretty stable where its at. Imma try it again soon to see if I can get it since I was also hindered on time to get this on.

@Hemi395 Did you have the issue with the ATS that I had? If not did yours just slide right in? Did you have to use something?

My second issue was the elbow going into the wheel well was definitely hitting and scraping against a AC line connection. This seems to be different per truck though. Its not pushing hard against the connector once it gets set in there. Mine was just a bit of work to get it in.

Other than those issues all in all I like it alot! 100% definite improvement in throttle response! And the truck does make a little bit of a louder tone around 3k rpm but nothing bad at all (Wife didn't even notice FYI) and I would say its 98% just as loud as stock.

Awesome, looks great!!!

This intake is so overlooked and after having it for several months now I'm not really sure why.

Yep I did have a bit of a problem with the ATS fitting in that grommet but I had to deal with that exact problem with my S&B intake as well. Try pulling the grommet out of the intake tube, put the sensor in that, and then carefully put the grommet back into the tube. Just be careful because that sensor is fragile. The good thing is they're relatively cheap (around $20) and having a second one on hand isn't a bad idea.

I think you're right about the scoop tube because I've read that sometimes the lower scoop hits up against that AC plug. Mine has a good amount of clearance and I remember I was watching for that when installed mine. Must be the difference in tolerances. As long as it's not really pushing on it you should be fine.

Don't laugh, but try a big old gob of spit smeared around the IAT and inside the hole,it might work. My IAT is a ***** to install into the grommet and I've had better luck with spit then silicone grease or WD40,lol

You got to lick it before you stick it...
:bleh:

I use P80 Grip-It for putting together rubber/plastic parts.

Quick question. I found the lower scoop for not a bad price. About to buy it. I'm curious though. Do you think I'll be able to push the tube from the bottom to get it installed? Or will I have to take off the box completely install the tube then the box?

Yeah that's how I installed it. I put the coupler on the top of the scoop tube and then attached it to the airbox but left it loose. That allows it to be flexible enough to put the bolt on the lower part of the tube. Then put the scoop on the bottom and adjust it as needed.

I'm toying with the idea of cutting a section of the air dam and moving the scoop up so the bottom of it's flush with the bottom of the air dam. It would make for a cleaner look, just not sure I want to hack up my air dam....

Awesome! thanks for the response! this is going to be interesting. I looked in that area earlier and mine looks like theres no room for that tube. If so, im going to push the wheel well liner back maybe. This is very interesting how all this space differs per truck. Aswell I have a brush guard and the brackets looks like they come out where the scoop actually is on your truck, but oh well. We shall see when it arrives. Ordered last night.

That's exactly what I thought when I went to put the scoop on lol. The wheel well line does flex out a bit and I ended up throwing a couple zip ties around the tube to attach the liner to it so it wouldn't flop around. Seems to work really well.

I can get some better pics of it when I get home from work today if that would help?

That would be really helpful! Only if you don't mind at all. Definitely don't want to be a bother. Any tips and info I can get from a experienced member I will gladly take lol

No problem! My truck is a 2013 so they may have made some minor changes to things after that.

Here's some pics that show the routing and clearances around the scoop tube. Some people say it interferes with the AC plug up top but I have a good amount of room there. The only thing I did have to move was the connector that's attached to the side of the frame but it just pops out and is easily moved out of the way.

You can also see how I zip tied the liner to the scoop at the bottom.

Hope this helps!e31793fab74428f168279f286f566163.jpgad54eabe4f1eae1028810be90db0b16f.jpg3e4f0d41685fb006897c543c1417b9c7.jpgcd445648963a5edea5a9ac7cf2ffddec.jpg1742005b47fed54786d20695dd65aeaf.jpg13dfe954b057a1d5bbd204db6781b882.jpg
