Have a new 2021 Warlock that I LOVE… and it was my perfect truck… however now a little one on the way and the warlock while pretty darn smooth riding in the summer…seems to be a lot stiffer in the cold mn winter… or maybe it’s more road heave in the winter (or both). It’s still new (under 10k mi) and the warlock has hd shocks from my understanding so not sure how much that factors in.

Looking at options for a smoother ride. Not sure if 5th gen makes that much of a diff?… big Horn or Laramie would be the way I’d lean if it’s a significant improvement…however not if it’s just a small improvement.

As well I’d switch from quad to crew… not sure if that impacts the ride.

Ill have to drive one to see for myself, however welcome any and all thoughts from the wise folks of the forum!

Wow.. thanks guys… I had no idea it was that much difference.

5th gen test drive in the next week or two! downside is I have to figure out all the other stuff (all the options for engine, tranny, rear end, locking differential etc etc)…

My warlock was all of… pointing at it and saying that one lol.

Be wary of the air suspension, if you get lots of cold freezing weather in the winter it can stop working after a few years of ownership. Coils are a bit rougher than air (but still better than 4th gen coils) but are bullet proof and have no trouble in the cold.

5th gens definitely aren't having the same issues with the cold as the 4th gens saw. This generation is in its 4th year of production now. But I'm not seeing people complain about issues with their air suspensions on 5th gens. It's true that all air suspensions will eventually have issues. We aren't seeing the same failure rates we were seeing on 4th gens. For me, the benefits of the system far outweigh the possible costs of repair or replacement after the warranty expires. It's worth the risk for me since I'm probably not going to be keeping this truck more than maybe 5 or 6 years. Hell, even if it eventually fails, I can just swap in a coil spring setup if I don't want to pay to repair the air system. So there are options.

Fair enough. At this point I'm pretty tired of my truck and it's issues. Thought I got rid of hemi rattle on second cold start but no it's still there. I'm tired of the hemi and all its drama and what it takes to make it run quietly and hopefully without lifter failure. I'm tired of the clunk in my driveshaft that requires a driver to know how to start it "properly" (Don't hang onto the brake!), I'm tired of the clunk when it downshifts on a rolling start by a stop sign, I'm tired of the poor MPG (which to be honest isn't that bad for a v8) and Ram doesn't sell a fuel efficient diesel in Canada for anything resembling an honest price. I'm tired of all the effort to get my trailer dialed in right when towing otherwise it's too bouncy and squirrely (and yes I have the hellwig, good tires, and even tried both sumo springs + airlift bags in the back).

So I'm done with my truck and looking for a replacement, it won't be from Ram but I haven't yet decided what I'm doing 100%.

I have a 2021 Longhorn with air suspension. Love it. Great ride. HOWEVER now I have switched from my 22” standard wheels to 18” winter tyres with higher side walls, even better!
If you want the smoother ride, go for a model with 20” wheels!

DISCLAIMER. My view only lol.

F-150 PowerBoost. It’s their most powerful and most efficient gas engine in a F-150. However, it has turbos so you will pony up for the premium fuel.

Also, good luck finding one.

Easy.

- 5.7L Hemi w/o eTorque
- Transmission is the 8HP75
- Tow? 3.92 No towing? 3.21

You’ll use LSD more often than a locker. But if you off-road then locker is more useful than LSD, as is the 3.92 axle

Don’t forget the 33-gallon tank

I can’t stand the interior of modern GM trucks. But that is personal preference. Good luck with your search.

The GM interiors are not objectively "bad"; it's well thought out, well executed, completely functional but just a tad plain. They were completely overshadowed by Ram but honestly I'm so over that. Every truck has pros/cons and I'm tired of all the cons on my truck and at this point I'm not sure the pretty face inside my truck is worth it. Would you rather marry the gorgeous drama queen or the more plain/simple country girl that never lets you down?

I may still consider a 5th gen ED, but the pricing is horrific in Canada, I don't know who is buying these things new but it won't be me. That leaves used, and even then they will be more costly than a used GM 3.0 simply because you only find ED in high priced trims over here.

You will be very disappointed I am afraid as all the trucks on the market will NOT meet your requirements and if you say one does you will not be honest about it. Nothin* you stated is wrong or bad, guess you are just “sensitive” or something. Good luck finding the impossible vehicle, really.

No ho smaller than 20” and you will be even happier.

Slightly off topic, but definitely related. I know your little one will be brand spanking new and you will love them to pieces, but they eventually turn on you and put all their focus into psychological operations to make you nuts. I know this because my three are 20-30 years old and the PsyOps continue on the daily. That being said, keep the Warlock to let the little one know that you are hard and not to be toyed with at any time in the future.
Back on topic the longer wheelbase of the crew cab should make a difference. The space in cab will definitely make a difference with the little one. (You have to haul a lot of gear for a baby. I do find mine a little bouncy (on Bilstein’s) in the deep cold but I think that’s just a fact of life.

No need for you to be afraid, I got this.

Having to hear my drive train clunk and my hemi rattle away doesn't make me "sensitive". It makes me smart to offload it while its still under warranty.

Everything that's wrong my truck is a sign of poor manufacturing or quality control, I mean drive trains have been figured out for what, 50 years if we're being very conservative? They should not be clunking, this is not new tech or something they still need to figure out.

I have just finished an article about the Ford F150 on the 25 issues you need to be aware of before buying one. Just a few things that were brought up were engine issues, handling issues, poor ride quality, noisy interior on highway driving, poor fuel mileage, steering issues, suspension problems and the many problems with the aluminum body and bed! I do not care for Ford but was surprised at the large list of issues that they have. Funny thing though a Ford owner will tell you what a wonderful truck they are .
