Hey guys I just called my local dealer to try and order tow mirrors for my 2012 2500. The person that I talked to said that it is strongly recommended that you don't add tow mirrors if your truck didn't come with them from the factory. He said its a very good chance of burning out the body control module that cost approx 1800 dollars and something about door modules that cost about 400. Has anyone else heard about this or has anyone had any problems? I don't see the big difference it has all the same options as mine do now. Any help would be appreachiated. Nick

Never heard of this. There are tons of people that add tow mirrors and have no problems.

My two friends both with 2011's have added tow mirrors with NO adverse effects. I'm ordering mine next week although they have the basic ones I'm getting the fully equipped ones.

I just called another dealer that called Chrysler and they said it is a factory option only and you will burn out your door modules. They don't sell the mirrors in a kit anymore either so it's 600 for the drivers side and 650 for the passenger side. That's some ********* right there

Well... It is possible the tow mirrors draw significantly more juice to adjust since the glass is much larger than on the smaller mirrors on these trucks. Are you talking about the 1500 size tow mirrors or the HD tow mirrors?

You might consider testing the current draw of your current mirrors, and maybe someone on here who has some tow mirrors (like the ones you want) would do the same for you, and for everyone else in the forum. If it is vastly different you could assume Chrysler is right, and save yourself burning out the door modules.

Maybe test the exterior heating as well although I wouldn't think that would run through the door module.

Thanks for the idea Jib. I'll definetly test them. I just can't imagine they draw more power they do the same thing as mine now just flip up an have a spot mirror.

Don't get me wrong lol, I would be pretty willing to bet they are selling you a line of ****, but depending on how much change you have floating around in your pocket it is worth spending a little time checking it out just in case.

Lazy asses these dealers I swear hate their lives. This sounds like another BS session from their mouth. You can do anything and usually not as big of deal as they make it. I remember dealers saying don't do a remote start they cause problems. We did thousands a year with very little issues when done correctly. Now those dealers are doing them too. I say go for it you could always swap them back and have warranty if you had to which you wont anyway.

BS! The 1500 can be ordered with them from the factory and are the same ones on the 2500 and 3500, doubt they have 2 different modules. Plus I'm pretty sure there would've been more threads about the issue if it was true

1500 and HD have the same exact tow mirrors

I put Mopar tow mirrors on my 1500 in February with no probs. I never heard of this. Why do they make them if they don't work or cause problems? Besides, how are you supposed to tow a travel trailer without tow mirrors?

I think it's bull$hit they have to keep adding all these damn computers to screw stuff up. Who the hell needs a computer to control their mirrors/windows/door locks? Same thing with the lights, they worked fine for years. Now they decide to run everything through a computer you can't change a damn bulb without setting a check engine light.. I understand the ECM due to emissions standards but this is getting ridiculous.
