Any other Pentastar truck owners out there? I'm curious what your experience is with the truck and it's mileage.

Just thought I'd share...

Decided on yesterday's trip from Greenville, SC to Roanoke, VA (i85 / i77 / i81) for my son's graduation that I would leave the truck in tow/haul mode and see what the mpg's looked like.

I'm the original owner of a 2013 Pentastar v6/8spd CC 4x4 (3.21 rear) with over 22k miles on it and with the rolling hills and occasional mountain areas I find tow/haul mode let's the truck hunt gears a little less, holds cruise control speed with less drift and better throttle response (easier than using the gear +/- limit buttons also).

Traffic was light (Sunday afternoon) except for the occasional idiot in the left lane doing less than or barely the speed limit and not getting over (rant) and it was just me, my occasionally heavy foot, and a few days worth of stuff.

302 miles and 22.5 mpg @68mph & 4hrs 25mins
(1st 150 miles showed 24mpg before I hit the Appalachian mountains)

Typical city mpg for me is about 17-18mpg.

6/11/16 Edit: just made the drive back with the same setup
302 miles and 21.5 mpg @67mph & 4hr 29mins

Seems about right.. As much as I hate mpg threads, I'll contribute and say I was gitting that with my 8spd 5.7 (stock)

That seems pretty good to me , I don't get much better than that in my wife's Durango. On 50 mile trips I usually get ~24.5. My 5.7 ~12

Yeah, my 2016 short bed 8 speed 5.7 gets about that out on the open highway. Around town maybe 14, 18-19 on the average for my drives.

When I got my 2013 v6/8sp there were not many Hemi/8spds available in my area (vs Hemi/6spd). So the v6 was a better option for me mpg wise.

I must say that I've seen several people post similar mpg about the Hemi/8spd which is impressive and tends to make getting the v6 a moot point for most unless there is a great deal to be had on the v6. I have seen some hemi/8spd's with worse mpg reported which all comes down to rear end ratio, 4x4 vs 4x2, tires/mods, and driving style.

A friend of mine bought a 14 same time as I bought mine, his is same as yours, 3.6/8speed/3:21. He drives like a grandmother and had some mixed driving, no real hills at all. I hand calculated 3 of his fuel ups from reciepts, was very impressed. He got around 25mpg all of them. I get nowhere close same type of driving. In summer best I have got is 19mpg. Haven't taken it on a dedicated highway tank of fuel yet though, always a bit of mixed thrown in. But I am impressed with the V6 trucks..... although not enough for myself to buy one. Lol I like my V8's.

The 8 speed helps a tad with MPG vs the 6 speed. Granted I have 3.92 gears and slightly larger than stock tires, but I get 14-15 MPG when doing 80+ MPH (speed limit on interstate is 80 in SD) with a strong cross wind or slight head wind. Its always blowing out here on the flat plains, and it can blow many, many different directions other than the few you want.

If I keep it down to 70, even with a cross wind, I can get 18-19 (hand calculated). I have no doubt that if I was going even slower, say 60-ish, I'd be breaking 20 some days. But I didn't buy this beast for MPG. :)

Just made the trip back and got nearly the same results (see op), so it's certainly consistent.
Any other Pentastar owners getting similar results?

My truck is still stock, except for the BAK Roll-X hard tonneau cover.

Yep..... I have a 4x2 short bed so the lightest RAM 1500 and I get overall about 22 mpg. I drive in mixed city/hwy with some sitting in traffic. If I baby it on the Hwy I can get 27-28 mpg but that isn't representative of everyday driving.

Your city mpg is close to mine (17 mpg) for a similarly sized v6/8spd/3.21 CC, but your 26 Mpg Hwy is out of reach of my 4x4 (22.5 mpg). I guess that's where that extra 4wd weight kicks in.

Thanks.

agreed on the weight savings going with a 4x2, saw 25.8 on the first leg of my latest adventure. Hemi 3:92 4x2 57-60 mph on first half, return leg 20.9 but average speed would have been close to 70mph average.:favorites13:
