It's hail season here in Colorado and I can't fit my truck in most garages or car ports. It already took a few hits on the hood. I want to prevent more.

I'm looking for something that will attach to the truck and stay put during a storm so it won't blow away in a gust of wind.

Are these any good for hail? Even the 5 layer one seems thin, but it's hard to tell from the small photos. 2013 DODGE RAM 150 / 1500 Truck Covers with Free Shipping - Budge

I've seen some others that look like pool toys (inflatable blanket that covers the truck) in photos, but not for sale anywhere. Maybe it was a fad?

Got any recommendations? I want to get something ASAP. Thanks!

You really need something thicker like moving blankets my true suggestion is to lower your comprehensive deductible down to something cheep like $100 of you know it's going to take a beating and then after hail season go find a good PDR guy and get it fixed. Putting covers on and off every time a storm rolls in is a pain and blankets blow away not to mention possibly scratching your truck in the process. Most hail damage up to golf ball/ half dollar will pop right back out when in the hands of someone that knows what he's doing.

I carry quilted moving blankets. I put a couple of grommet in them and carry a couple of bungy cords to attach them to the wheel wells /bumpers. Not a perfect solution but better than nothing. Small scratches are a lot easier to get out than hail dents. IMHO

I used to use moving blankets for mine. They work great. Now I am working out a neoprene cover so I can stop messing with drying blankets.

I don't live where there's hail, but has anyone tried throwing some moving blankets down and then keeping them in place with a normal car cover?

Ya, I lowered my comprehensive deductible and made sure it covered hail when I moved out here. The price difference was minimal and I figured I'd need it eventually. I'll get the hood dents repaired at the end of the season (or replace it with a scoop!) Just hoping to keep it to a minimum until then.

Neoprene is a cool idea. I've used sorbothane for insulation in machines and thought about that too. Armor plating a regular car cover with either of those would really be something!

I wasn't sure if moving blankets would do any help, once wet. Glad to hear some positive feedback. Sounds like an easy fix for now at least.

Here is the problem, you put the claim in and then you get dinged for daring to use the product you have been paying for all along by either raising your rates of dumping you. The insurance industry is legalized racketeering. Save your claims for the drunk un-insured motorist that t-bones your vehicle. Unless Colorado has put some law in place that prevents them from doing that.

The most they can ding you is 10% after 3 years it falls off my truck costs me in the area of 60-70 a month to cover (we have multi cars) so if i put a claim in my monthly will go up $7 a month at most costing me $84 a year extra. Your insurace company will not drop you over a few 3-5k claims they will drop you when you get sued for 100's of thousands of dollars. Mother Nature, mistakes, and drunken idiots are why we carry insurance you should never be scared to use it. Now if you have $500 deducatble and it's like $600 to fix it I'm all over not putting in a claim for that. My sister in law worked insurance for 7+ years I know my source is soild on this. I use to be the same way until she explained it to me after a incident with my wife.

I'd be interested in seeing a test with serious thunderstorm winds though. They do a lot of tests on a bright sunny day with one shot objects but that's all I've seen.
With repeated hits, in strong winds.. If the wind blows it far enough to the side where it's contacting the body, then it can't protect that area from the hail.

We have been abusing the Hail Protector System for 4 years now, because we know Mother Nature will abuse it. It's solid. Designed and developed in hail alley.

That's a little more reassuring. Thanks for making that a little more clear :favorites13:

Hi. Thanks for offering your product as a solution in my thread. I had seen the "giant pill bug" before, but didn't think it would work with my lifted truck and you don't have a phone number on your website (not that I could find, at least).

My truck is over 7' tall with a great deal of ground clearance. Will your product fit? I was under the impression that the bottom of the Hail Protector had to be near the ground to seal the air in.

Here's a photo for reference. I plan to add a pre-runner style front bumper, tire carrier tailgate, and curved LED light bar to the roof, in case that makes a difference. They will all protrude from the body a bit.

Ya, I found these guys in a search, too. Do you have any experience with their hail blanket?

The website has a single photo and this is the only description:

"Kimberly-Clark made non-woven durable polypropylene outer layer for hard strike strength to progressively softer layers near the surface of your vehicle."

Looks like the most expensive option on the market and their website has NOTHING to say or show about it?

Hi Rocky,

Check out this customer photo. Different brand of truck, but with a lift kit. As long as the front of the cover is cinched at the bottom of the front wheels and at the top of the rear wheels, you're golden. Our phone number is 855-511-4245. Thanks Rocky.
