I have a 2018 w/ 8 speed & 3.92 gears. I just bought the Carven Progressive & 5" tips. Exhaust was also a lot louder than I expected. Sounds great, but not sure If i want to keep it or not. Coming from a nearly silent cab w/ the stock set-up, to this gets a bit annoying. You can slightly hear the exhaust at steady cruising speed, not loud enough to call "drone", but a little acceleration and it drones a little. Hear it most around 6th & 7th gear. The 5" tips look AWESOME TOO!!! :naughty:

From what im reading the 3.92s make a difference in the drone. Id really like to do a borla or a solo mach 44, buy the pipes and have it customized to be a clamp on. I really dont want to be stuck with a welded in muffler. Im a month in, and i think its gotta go, just want to find a replacement 1st. Anyone in the Delco PA area with a borla or solo setup?

Finally got a chance to compare a friends 2017 Rebel with the carven competitor, vs my sport with the progressive. My exhaust is noticeably louder in the cab, not just drone wise either. I also think it was louder outside too. Didn't have time to look underneath to see if maybe the rebel has more sound dampening mats or something different. Doesn't make sense to me at all. Maybe my progressive is missing some of the baffle material internally?

If you buy the Solo Mach 44 kit (full cat back), it will be bolt on. I have the Mach 44 (muffler only) and I really like it. Sounds great and not too loud. I'm sure the full muffler kit will be louder than what I have since it removes the resonators, but I'm sure it will sound great.

I have the Carven progressive and 5” stainless tips. Couldn’t be happier. It’s plenty loud for me. And most importantly I don’t even have to turn my MDS off as its really not that noticeable to me when it kicks on. d2f4e759ada4d41e9936472002756f1a.jpge1527787cdd1013061a1b2c42ebb5ea9.jpg

Not sure who makes it, but isn't there a piece of pipe available that cuts out the drone?

Thanks for everyones input, **** is driving me crazy. At this point i dont think itll hurt to send carven customer service an email see if theyve had any similar cases. If i cant figure something out, im gonna contact a local performance shop, see what it would take make a custom clamp in.

How far out from your bumper are your tail pipes? Also, did you just replace the muffler, or did you get the tips too? The reason I ask is because if you didn’t, those 4 inch tips might be causing your exhaust to be a little bit raspy and higher pitched.

Also, did the front end of your dual exhaust pipes - where they attach to the muffler- or even the pipe stub that your new muffler attached to, have that little alignment nub on them? Mine did, and in order to get my new tips to set right, I had to grind those nubs off.

You did reuse and reinstall all three isolators on the tail pipes correct, mounted correctly?

Mine seems like it may have a little bit of drone at 1500 or so RPM’s but it’s not bad to me. So far the only noticeable drone I ever had was out of a Cherry Bomb Extreme muffler I had on a 4.7 V8 Dakota.

This drone is no where near that, and that one was bad....lol.

Just the muffler, no tips. By isolators do u mean the rubber hangers? If so yes.
Pipes did have the nub on them, one pipe is bottomed out against the nub, lets say that stuck out in the back about 3/4 to and inch, when the other was bottomed out it didnt stick out nearly as much, so that one i actually slipped out about a quarter inch to get the pipes more even, still plenty of insertion depth i would think. Then i adjusted the tips to get everything lined up right. Could that possibly be it?

Yeah, I meant the rubber hangers.

I guess it could be that the one pipe isn’t pushed all the way in the muffler, I dunno. . You may or may not have to grind those little nubs off- I did, but only because my tips stuck out too far from under the bumper, and in order to get them lined up properly and not pointing at each other. I don’t remember if my new 5 inch tips are the same length or not as the factory tips, but I pushed the passenger side pipe all the way in to get the look I wanted but even though I still had to grind both nubs off, I still ended up having to pull the driver side pipe out a little bit to line it up evenly with the other one.

Again, how far out does your tips protrude from under the bumper? Do they stick out more or less from where they were before you started?

With the angle, maybe 3/4 " on outside edge.
When i get into work ill try grinding tabs off, burying it in there and realigning it.
Thanks again for the help

My tips (went with Go Rhino 4-inch blackies) are situated just like this...they're 14-inch-long clamp-ons, so I simply Sawzall'd the factory tips shy of the joint. Of course, I left enough of the old pipe so the clamps would have something to grab ahold of, but no issues sound-wise after a little adjustment and follow-up tightening. I'm running a shop-installed (read welded) Borla ProXS that I highly recommend.

Im probably just being stubborn with the bolt on setup. On a welded setup, does it destroy ur pipes that its welded to? Can they be removed or replaced easily? Never done much modding in any car or truck, and what i have its always been bolt on stuff. I'm paranoid about screwin up the maxcare warranty i bought. My luck when the exhaust manifold bolts break theyll blame the damn muffler!

Trust me, I get not wanting to screw with the Max Care warranty, as I've got the same one on my rig! Yet I'm running an aftermarket muffler and 30-weight oil in the thing! I'm not really worried about a dealership blaming the muffler for anything in the engine bay (and perhaps I'm too trusting) and the oil, well, let's just say I doubt they'll send a sample off to Blackstone to confirm the weight (if that's even possible with any miles on it). Others here are choirboys when it comes to Max Care and to each his own, I say, but as for me and my house, we'll do what makes the most sense while having a little fun along the way (heavier oil and louder muffler, in this case).

Nope, your pipes aren't destroyed if a shop welds in a replacement, but you do want those guys to weld your aftermarket piece as far back as possible. I also kept my resonators, again per advice on this forum, and the result is close to perfect.

If you want to stay bolt on with little to no drone, check out Solo Performance Mach 44 cat back exhaust. It's less expensive than the Corsa and sounds good. I have just the Mach 44 muffler and love it. I had mine welded on, but if you get the kit it will be bolt on.

If you don't mind welding in a muffler, the Borla Pro XS is a winner. Sounds great and no drone. Won't be a loud as your Carvin, but sounds really good.

they sell a j pipe that you add in clamps in like the carven you just have to cut the pipe and supposed to completely eliminate drone

i thought mine was too much drone... outside was great but in the cab i felt like blood was going to start seeping from my ears

Yea but the drone suppression pipe (if that’s what you are referring too) is like $175

Luckily I don’t have much if any drone with my Carven.

But if you love the sound and can’t find another bolt on you like the suppression pipe might not be bad to try.

What’s this J pipe you’re talking about and who makes it?
