Factory trailer brake

'17 BigHorn 1500... my truck doesn't have a factory trailer brake, the service writer at my dealer wasn't sure if I need just the switch / lever or some kind of actuator to go with it, in addition to programming. Seems the people in here know more about these trucks than the dealers do, so I figured I would ask.

It's two pieces of hardware, the actual switch and a module that goes under the dash. Then you need to turn on the software via the dealer or alfaobd. I did my own hardware install then had the dealer "turn it on"

For a lot less money, you can get an after market brake controller . I by passed my IBC, cause it wasnt doing the job with my fifth wheel. Installed a prodigy P3 with the RAM adaptor harness and it works great. Install took all of about 15 minutes.

Just found NOS brake controllers on eBay so I bought one which also came with the module and the metal bracket to mount under the IP.

From what I can tell the factory brake controller also uses the trucks various confusers to help with sway as well and will apply the brakes slightly if it detects trailer sway which is pretty cool. We shall see.

Just bought a 2015 Ram Big ***** (hehe) 1500 with the Hemi - traded up from a midsize truck. Wow.

Now I'm waiting for the OBD2 device to show-up so I can enable the brake controller as you have a mess with the truck's on-board systems. I have a list of changes I'm already planning to make to the truck's systems.
