Hey guys...new to the forum and to Ram's as I have always had Chevs.

I am looking to level off my 2019 Ram Classic 4x4 and not sure if I should go 2 inch or 2.5 inch. I do not drive off-road but do haul a 8000lb travel trailer and have rear air bags for the towing.

So looking for any information on either Rough Country or Rugged Edge level kits, the Rugged Edge is suggested by my local truck shop and also carries a 5 year power train warranty on anything your dealer won't cover.

Also after having my Chevs with a 2 inch level I never had any major issues in 5 years but with the 2.5 I am wondering what are the pros and cons of this height. I don't want to go from a great ride to a horrible ride, or do I want to have continuous trouble with the front end and increase fuel cost by a lot. I love the look of my truck now but like the level look and larger tires as well.

Also what tire size would work best?

I have a pic attached of my truck and will be keeping the stock rims.

I have scrolled through many posts on this topic but with so many I figured I may get a few answers relative to my situation :)

All opinions/comments are welcome.

Thanks,

I would go with the RCs leveling struts which come with the springs already mounted. Installation is much easier than Bilstein and no need to compress springs.

You'll get 2 inches of lift.

I did Bilstein 5100's at stock height setting with Eibach lift springs, it handled great! I think the lift came out to a little more than 2"

rough country is junk don’t put junk on a brand new truck. There are a few variations of replacement struts that offer height settings so do a little reading on here and come up with a budget of how much it’s worth to you and we can help steer you in a direction for that price point.
Chevys accept leveling spacers a lot better than rams do

How many times have you used their products? I've had mine for several months and they have been great. I also have Bilstein in my Grand Cherokee. The problem with RC is that people looking to save money buy their products since they are usually cheaper for DiY installations without proper tools or the knowledge then they run into problems and bash the company and their products instead of their poor mechanical skills.

I own a suspension shop. I see A LOT and there is a reason my shop will not install anything rough country. You get what you pay for stands true but also how you believe in and stand behind your products has a lot to do with a companies image.
I agree with you there are a lot of weekend mechanics that are down right scary wrenching on stuff they shouldn’t be.

Fair enough but I still think there are worse products out there. When I received the struts I was impressed with the level of quality and fit and finish. Went is prefectly and the vehicle aligned within specs. Same could be said about the Bilsteins. I got the advertised lift which is something that can't be said about the Rancho quick lift struts with tons of complaints about not getting the advertised lift.

i agree There are plenty of worse brands including no name brands out there. Rough Country can use some of their marketing money to put into R&R and maybe re coupe their name but greed has become their friend over the last few years. Their older stuff was not as terrible as todays stuff. Most of the stuff we see is done by reputable off road shops and they installed it to fit the customers budget. They have issues, ask around and find our shop that still uses a torque wrench and cares. I can say that rough countrys stuff is usually not broken its just causing squeaks and creaks that would drive anyone mad. Some have great experiences with it others have night mares so I lean toward spending the few extra dollars on products that give a better long term result. Instead of spending the money twice because no matter what its always more expensive the second time you do it

I get what you are saying. I wish I could have spent Icon money but I recently got married so the wife wouldn't approve. When I looked into getting a leveling kit, I was between the Bilsteins and the Ranchos. Then I read the issues with Rancho coming short of their advertised lift so I steered away. I didn't get Bilsteins because I didn't want to mess with spring compressors. I would have to buy compressors or take it to a shop to compress. No shop I called would do it unless they installed them. I thought $400 was too much for the labor. That's when I saw the RCs. The price was good, installed easily and feel great. Crossing my fingers they will last.

It's not hard to install the Bilstein shocks. They give the advertised lift and are well made. It's sad that guys get scared away because you have to compress the spring to install them. If you don't have a spring compressor you can rent one from your local parts store for free in most cases. There are tons of videos on YouTube with guys doing tutorials on installation. I've installed several sets and of course have gotten faster at it the more I have done but it's honestly pretty basic once you get into it. I will say you need to watch as many videos as you can because some guys that like to post how to videos should probably be watching them instead of making them but it's pretty easy to tell when they may not be as knowledgeable as one would hope.

Ranchos are not as cheap as RC unless you're buying the old 5000's. Procomp is prob cheaper than RC and they probably rule the $50 shock segment at least when it comes to the white body shocks.

I broke 5100 strut tiny shafts 3 times in my Taco before i came into my senses $150 struts don't function for certain tasks no matter how bad I want to save the money.

Rancho QL's BTW gave me 2.5" in the RAM initially, then settled down to 2.25". Ran them for 12k miles trouble free and smooth riding before they became my backup shock set. never had an issues with them. I'm running my old Rancho 9000XL shocks right now in the back temporarily and the truck rides so smooth is not even funny considering i have $1800 King coilovers in the front to compare the ride with.

I can vouch for what i run and how what i run feels in my vehicle. I can't tell you what others have experienced or not and I can't do much for the tons of complaints any brand can get. I've never been much into bandwagons for good or bad and tipically I prefer to create my own experience so I try different things and I publicly advertise how that goes. Don't have anything bad to add about Rancho or RC or Procomp. Had them all and have worked without issues.

Will i buy Rancho again ? Yes, I've also ran RC in my Jeeps. They're cheaper but get the job done. Have tried both and still prefer Rancho between the two. There is a place and a part for every budget and every build. Some better than others. Cheap is not always as cheap as we want.

Will i buy 5100 struts again ? Yes but only if I can get them fully assembled otherwise no if i can get Rancho or RC or Procomp quick lifts struts all ready to go. I like my chit plug and play, i can replace it myself so if it ever broke its a super simple change. My factory suspension parts typically end up in the trash so i'm not into reusing none of it anyways. You can get Bilsteins 5100's in the Toyota world fully assembled with different springs, in some instances like with Toytec you can get adjusters in them like a Coilover btw so I just got spoiled long time ago with QL assemblies. :)

unfortunately that's not the case with RAM plus you get to deal with the stupid washer issue in this application. If you can install them correctly then that's all it really matters. They're just struts. 3 nuts at the top and one nut at the bottom and they're free from their mount. That's how I see it. You want to compress the spring and switch plates go for it. Should not be that complicated after all there are shops out there willing to add 2 more hours of labor to your bill and when done right you'll know or maybe you won't... Lol.

I went eibach pro lift kit on bottom notch with zone UCA’s. I got 2.5” in front and 1” in rear. Rides smooth and handles great. I put 20x10-24 wheels with 275/65/20 tires. Rubs a little at full turn but nothing that’s gonna hurt anything.

My 2015 6.4 L, I installed 2.5 inch level kit it never effected the ride I think it handles better. I would use the kit that consists of spring block that are installed on top of springs plus the shock extensions. All the added parts others have suggested are unnecessary.

You have a 2500, op has a 1500. Completely different front suspension. Spacer on struts with stock arms is basically a guarantee of failure.

I was thinking about Rough Country and Im glad I read this. What companies do you recommend for middle of the road? I have a 2012, so I don’t want to spend huge amounts on my old beater.
