From what I gathered, 2018 was the first year the underhood light was not an option even though the plug was there on the cowl near the firewall on the passenger side. BUT, some early builds, such as mine also came with the pre-cut underhood insulation for the light. Later builds, such as my fathers, did not have the cutout. He added the light kit and measured off of mine to cut out the spot for the light.
My truck is a Limited, his is a Longhorn, both 3500 Crewcab duallies.

I’ve added one to both of my Rams. Very easy, relatively inexpensive, and useful mod. Honestly, for what we pay for these trucks, they really should all come with an under hood light.
