What would happen if I hooked up a 2020 8.4 Uconnect to 2014 truck?

I have a 2014 BigHorn and I want to upgrade my 3G Uconnect for something newer. Has anyone ever tried this to connect a 2020 (68331635AK) Uconnect to a 2014 RAM?

I know that newer models may not be fully supported, but what would be the newest model that would be compatible?

I was looking at upgrading my radio at one point. I think the majority of those who went by way of upgrading their head unit, went by way of aftermarket. I guess to avoid hunting and searching for specific adaptors and such. And not having to do a ton of additional work to make a newer factory unit function properly. I believe a lot of folks visited Crutchfield to grab a unit that fit their needs. And there are quite a bunch of more than decent head units there. Plus, Linkwell and Phoenix. But those latter two have had some issues as well. I skipped the upgrade for now. Using my factory unit and simply added a bluetooth adaptor for calling and satellite radio through the head unit. Good luck with your upgrade...

I've been looking to add some "stuff" to my, new to me , 16 Tradesman 1500. Don't carry a phone with me, don't care for anything but a basic radio ( which no longer even exists), but the wife is like some of Ya all -likes buttons. I was looking to add a trailer brake controller and back up camera. But thought they would look nicer in the "factory" locations and operate as the would if they were actually ordered from the factory. I wound up on a site -Infotainment.com - found what I wanted and ordered them. While there I did notice they have kits to change "radios" from basic to 5.0 to 8.4 etc Dash panels and all that seems to be necessary, to make it function and look normal (O.E.) Prices are far -to me- from cheap. But I have no idea what the "normal" costs would be, as I am not interested in that stuff. Maybe go to the site take a look and then come back and let others know what you found, value etc. My Ram actually has the 5.0 which make Rebecca happy. I ride motorcycle as primary transportation, have a 66 Satellite (689HP/675Lbft) I just listen to the pipes for my entertainment! Have already added Cold air and cat back exhaust to the Ram. Will be adding a couple of 6"light bars" down in the bumper area as driving lights (do not care for Fog lights) Different site by the way (Diode Dynamics). I wouldn't know what I am looking at, maybe you can help the others?

If i had the option to dump the piece of s**** Panasonic radio in the wifes 2019 Challenger,it'd be gone,as the older Harmon head unit in my truck is a far better head unit then the Panasonic in her car is. The Panasonic in the cars even has the black screen of death rep,but being a 1320,i'm pretty well stuck with the radio if i want to maintain the "drag" mode the car has.

I just did it last night and it seems to work.
I will play with it more today to see what all works and what doesn’t.
