i am dealing with the same thing right now. its horrible, at some point the dealers need to realize everyone has a smart phone. People with a little bit of knowledge can find out on the internet if the dealer is full of ****. Lol dealer asked me why i don't get my truck serviced there, i simply said i don't trust you to do a oil change. he took offence to what i said till we documented my oil level before i left.... low oil and tech marked safe operating level on the paper work.... i just said see what i mean when i cant trust your work lol.

THIS is the reason aside from my experience that I am going to cancel the contract. Sorry you are facing this too - save receipts, document and do it yourself - not to mention how satisfying it is. I've always enjoyed doing my own work. Since my motorbike crash, it has been hard to get on and off the ground, but I'm getting better at it and ready to do automotive work on my back again :)

Oh I enjoy doing my own work or take it to a private shop. When it comes to warranty work you must pay the dealer a vist though. My truck is currently there for the 3rd time hopefully they will figure out why diesel is dumping into my oil.

Yikes - good luck and I'd be curious to know what the outcome is.

Well my saga keeps getting better - I was changing my filters today including cabin air and the dealership did not return my security chuck for the tires. Could it get any worse? I'll update based on what they say if they claim it was not there. I know 100% it was there.

The only vehicle I don’t service (yet) is my wife’s Land Rover Discovery. All scheduled maintenance is gratis for the first 2 years. There’s ZERO upsell when I bring it in and they wash it weekly.

Not always. Wife had a long term maint deal on one vehicle. Every oil change they'd suggest unneeded maint. I'd check their list against the maint schedule in the owners manual and do the stuff that was called for myself. The rest I'd just laugh off.

Say, does the 2500 actually have hydraulic power steering? The 1500 is electric. If a dealership tried to sell me a power steering flush, I think I'd be having a word with the service manager on just how they intend to "flush" the electric power steering.
My dealership tried that on me on my 2013 1500. It was over $400. I told him doesn’t it have electric steering, he checked and sheepishly replied “ why, yes, yes it does” guarantee they would have charged me to do something that couldn’t have been done.

Does your truck have the CP3 or CP4 pump?

Two things cause fuel in the oil.... 1)a stuck or cracked injector or 2) the CP pump has a seal leaking. I've never had it happen but I've seen the CP3s have a leaky seal from time to time. That would dump fuel into the gear train that will make its way into the oil. The CP4s have problems already.

we call them Stealerships for a reason. That was complete BS and a **** poor excuse for a dealership. Should report them to FICA for what good it will do.

An I would bet the trans flush does not include dropping the trans pan to install a new trans filters and no way in he ll would I allow anyone to flush my transmission and IMO the $1276 for 4x4 service is really outrageous, now the price for the other 2 services is debatable...
Just looked at my invoice for the transmission service:

Transmission flush $299.95
Transmission pan $138.00
Fluid 89.00
________________________
Total $527

What they call a flush apparently is just opening the drain plug in the pan and draining what ever comes out. If you want the filter replaced, which is part of the pan, they remove the pan instead of opening the drain and the extra labor is part of the service.

I always walk in with the owners manual out, and opened to the manufacturer recommended service, and insist they only do the recommended things in the manual. They try to upsell but thankfully backoff when I show them the manufacturer's required service schedule. They still hit me though woth ridiculous environmental fees. I have a 2019 Tradesman Classic, bought mew in 2020, with only 32.8k miles

Hey guys - been a while since I posted but wanted perspective.

Went for my oil change today at the dealership. Before you judge I bought the lifetime change deal and for me it penciled. But, I know this is a tactic to get you in the door.

2022 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 28k miles and not a daily tow monster. A once a year tow for 2-4 k miles tops.

Urgent items needing service now per the dealership: power steering flush, transmission flush, brake flush and 4x4 service. My truck is a driveway princess and I know the intervals but played dumb.

I was floored at power steering and trans. Other bits I will always do myself and inspect but wow! Really!!!! Trans and power steering? I must of been wearing my sucker hat.

Had a road force balance, my oil change at 0 and my bank account was happy. I hate how they make you feel guilty that you’re not taking care of your rig. Ugh
This is nothing but a money making scam, I've seen other scam artists dealerships try this crap. You just tell them don't worry about it that when these items need serviced you will have it done or make sure you take care of it. They think most vehicle owners are stupid and I'll have to say there are some out there for sure.

I hate to be a little trite, but when you take a vehicle in for service a person should know ahead of time what the recommended intervals are for maintenance items and be ready to just say "no" if it's not time yet.

Dealership service facilities have higher overheads than independent shops and generally upselling is encouraged at the service writer (advisor) level. Pressure to do this may increase in times of slow volume.

As for dealerships, the national tire and muffler shops are even worse, in my opinion. If you think upsell pressure is high at a auto dealership, there's an inter-store competition for them that forces major upselling.

In New York the law requires the customer receive old non-core value parts back if the customer requests. After I helped a friends son with repairs on a car, he took it to a well known muffler chain where they replaced the lower ball joints on both sides. I knew they were good, so we went back and asked for the old parts. They said they were trashed and couldn't find them. So, I called the DMV and they dispatched a state trooper. To avoid having to prove the old parts were bad, they just refunded the kid the price of the parts and labor.

There's another nasty trick. A tire chain store took my daughters car in for state inspection. There were twelve days left on the inspection sticker. As soon as they got the car the very first thing the tech. did was remove the sticker. Now the vehicle cannot legally be driven if it fails inspection and the customer is now completely at the mercy of whatever upsell they have in mind. This is a violation of the state law and the manager had no suspicion I knew this. Needless to say we even got a better price on the tires.

When you go in educated and loaded for BEAR, (no pun on NY State Trooper Hats, I spent 4 years at Plattsburgh eons ago), it helps to call them on their BS and prevent needless stuff or BS stories or BS alleged services performed.

I have a 2009 Ram 1500. When I bought it I got a lifetime engine & powertrain warranty. I have to take it in every five years to be inspected.

So last inspection was a couple weeks ago, it passed. The dealership did a "complimentary" evaluation and it came back with about $5000 worth of "critical" items. WAY too much to change the transmission filter; they claimed the tires were "dry rotted", needed a lot of other stuff. All way overpriced.

One item was really interesting: One of the license plate lights was out. They quoted me $262.00 to replace the bulb. Service idiot claimed they had to remove the bumper to fix it. I told them thanks but no thanks for everything, stopped by O'Reiley and bought a two pack of bulbs for $7 and put it in myself. Didn't have to pull the bumper, it took about two minutes to do.

My opinion for what it's worth: Once EVs become more prevalent a lot of dealerships will go out of business because EVs don't need much maintenance. So they're jacking up the prices on ICE vehicles now while they can, servicing remaining ICE vehicles will be the only way they can survive.

Work on it yourself, or park it!

I can't stand working with the dealer, they're such a pain across the board. I called just to get a price last year on swapping out my passenger side lower ball joint and the rep on the phone said, "well how can I quote that? I'd have to talk to service.. then parts.. I'm not sure what you're asking here", to which I replied "well ya thats how you put together a quote! let me know how much it is for the parts and labour". I'm not sure all dealers are like that but the 3 in my town are.
