Hello,

Looking for a little help on additional components that are generally needed when replacing an engine. Aside from the fluids, I have been told that typically when replacing an engine you also need to replace the following:

Water Pump
Thermostat
Oil Cooler
Spark Plugs
Drive Belts
Air Filter

Are there other components I am missing?

Hoses, fittings, all gaskets for any part of the engine you disassemble - but if you're just dropping it in, then the gaskets should be good. You don't necessarily need to replace the oil-cooler if yours is in good shape, but it isn't a bad idea either.

If this is on the 2013 that's in your avatar, you don't have an oil cooler. If it's a used engine,i'd look at the rear seal and if it looks a bit shaky,i'd replace it

Thanks for the details guys. I really appreciate you all taking the time to help me out. It is a 2013 Ram 2500 ST long bed. I'm pretty sure we're going to do a new engine on it. After a little bit of research it seems these lifters like to fail at the 160-180k mark. Going to try to get a lien against to repair it. We only paid $10k for it about 2 years ago, so any repair is worth doing on this bad boy.

Not my business to tell you how to run your life, but I would NOT get a lien for an engine. Unless your lifters have actually failed, or you have a reason to believe that your engine is done or about to fail, I'd just leave it as is. That being said, lifters are actually not that hard to DIY replace on your own. Find a buddy who can help if needed. You'll save money and headaches.
