Not a big fan of this auto park feature and this is a great example. Especially if you do not have the tow mirrors. All these forced safety features are getting silly.
Strap a pool noodle on the front of that concrete post for indication that your right on top of the post.
My Dads farm has a set of 4X12's dug into the side of a hill,that were there when he bought the farm in the 60's,and they're still used for doing oil changes,and i dare you to back onto them with-out opening the door,it's about a 7 foot drop off them if you back up and miss the ramps or back over the end stops,lol. Camera doesn't really help other then lining you up on them,but once you're on them,the camera and mirrors are no longer usable.
I have less that 6" total ref front end and rear end room to put in garage for MY 19 CC Bighorn. Camera gets a Serious workout ref rear of truck.

If i'm at the farm alot of times i'll be doing diff sevices etc.,and then you're backing onto them. Plus not everything has dual mirrors,the majority of things there still have manual mirrors,so adjusting them is out of the question,it's easier to open a door when you start backing onto them.
have you never tried to back a small trailer or with a high load in the back of the truck? or hitch a trailer without a working camera by yourself? There are many times, if you tow on the regular that you may want or need to poke your head out or even gauge distance covered using your foot or running board against the ground as reference. I also have an unlit driveway and gate. At night the reflection of the back-up lights completely glare out the mirrors making them useless. Also when backing, if someone pulls up on the street with their lights on it also blinds the mirror. Bad lighting or sun glare, or children or pets not visible can occasionally necessitate having eyes outside the cab. I am not condoning hanging out the door by one arm, but there are definitely times a slightly open door just makes things easier.
Hang a tennis ball from the ceiling where it will touch your windshield when you are far enough in to close the door.
No need to rub salt in wound.Wow. I don't even have to put my foot on the brake pedal on my 2001 to shift out of Park into Reverse while my door is open and I'm revving the gas to get out of my garage as fast as humanly possible. I'm pretty sure that's not normal, but I'm okay with that.
