I hereby propose a NEW STICKY.

Can I get a SECOND and a THIRD on this? Even a MOD/ADMIN RULING would be sweet. :D

It is my feeling we might want a sticky specific to the following since it would not only solve the three existing thread's inquiries, but also will solve any future questions. Now that there are aftermarket units appearing it will also serve as a beacon for experience and feedback on the units as people begin using them.

Then again I could be completely

Suggestion, MODS/ADMIN, can you please see if a tie-in to the above referenced threads is possible, or even consider tying in all three of these topics under a new "STICKY" entitled "DIFFERENTIAL/TRACTION" withing the Engine and Performance as although this specific subject does fall under "Performance" is specifically falls into the "Drivetrain" category. From my experience people may not be keen on knowing to look in topics under a new "STICKY" entitled "DIFFERENTIAL/TRACTION" withing the Engine and Performance for a drivetrain topic.

/JustSayingAndThanksInAdvance.

Off to open my own topic on this, just so I get to be Mr.StickyCommander. ;)

Anyone not wanting to redirect in here and see what's up, Auburn Gear and others are now producing differential traction devices. Auburn's is already on the market and if the rumor(s) are true, there will be at least 2 more coming to market post SEMA-2014. I'll know more in the coming weeks.

Ignore what I just sent ya via pm, apparently I'm too quick on the keyboard tonight.

We do need this as a sticky, it just makes sense.

Interesting but too many stickies make for an annoying forum experience; ever see those forums where stickies scroll past an entire first page?

I don't have anything against Auburn, but their unit is still more expensive than the factory unit, will not accept any aftermarket gears (so we are still stuck using the expensive Mopar ring/pinion), and I have yet to see a factory ZF diff go out yet. I know many guys that have put the factory unit to the test, and it has held up great so far. I always like options, but until someone offers an aftermarket limited slip that is double drilled to accept aftermarket gears as well as the ZF gears, I still see the factory unit being our best option.

I have the factory unit in mine. If or when it dies I'll look at different traction options. Until then it is nice for people to know their options.

As to who else may have cards in play, let's see what SEMA may bring. I'm still interested in seeing how the Auburn works for Maz762.

ZF rear axles started in mid 2010 I think, so there is a division between 2009-2010.5 (some vehicles received the ZF 235 in 2010), 2010.5-2012, 2013+ I could be wrong here, so feel free to correct me.

My contention would be that more options would be nice since the OEM LSD is not very good at torque biasing.

If I understand correctly, there is no factory LSD option for the 66RFE or 68RFE? Or the factory LSD cannot be installed with those transmissons?

If that's the case, I wonder if there is an aftermarket LSD for them. I hope there is a cheaper option that paying to get the ZF 8 installed, and then buying the factory LSD.

I'm not even really sure how to tell if I have the 66RFE or the 68RFE either. I have a 2014 CC 1500 with 3.55 rear axle ratio. I've decoded the VIN but I don't see anything mentioning the trans part ID

The transmission has nothing whatsoever to do with the limited slip options. You have the 65rfe transmission, the ones you listed are in the HD trucks. You can buy the factory or aftermarket lsd and it will install just fine.

Yeah you're absolutely right I'm kind of in shock that those words came out of my mouth lol. I just read all about differentials and watched YouTube videos on how they work the other day and somehow lost it all and thought they had something to do with the trans. Oops. Yeah and I also didn't read Wikipedia enough past the transmission listing on the right side to notice those were only hd truck transmissions. Hey thanks for correcting all that

will the factory limited slip still lock when put into 4wd lock? Or do you lose a locking rear end when it is installed?

There is no rear "lock". The limited slip will work no matter what unless it is worn out.
