Looking on Amazon for Penzoil Ultra Platinum 0-40 synthetic oil I see it comes from B&S Supply. Never heard of them and curious if that's anything to be concerned about. Comes in a 7-pack which is just right for an oil change. Google search did not pull them up either. The dealer just did my first oil change and put the short filter on. I will be doing my own changes from now on and use the Royal Purple 20-820 filter. Also saw a listing for 10 20-820 filters for $99 which raised my spidey sense. One filter will be around $19. Stocking 10 filters is doable for me but are they knock offs? And what if I lose the truck to accident or repair? Long range I would likely use them because I intend to change oil much more frequently than recommended. Anyone out there bought these items?

Yeah that deal seems to be too good to be true. I would be skeptical as well.

Thanks for the reply on B&S. I will go ahead with the order. As for the barrel of oil...does that come with a pump? My first job in high school was at a Richfield (now ARCO) gas station and I always liked drawing oil from the hand operated pumps. Acquired one of those years later which had been at a Union Oil or Standard Oil Station and have only dreamed about filling it with oil since we have to purchase so many different viscosity's and types now. Nice garage art though. Have a few of the oil drop spout containers as well in various sizes.

People really put penzoil in their engines? I am reluctant to put penzoil in my lawnmower when people give it to me for free.

Might check out Costco.com for Mobil 1. No, I've not seen PUP there but WalMart does carry it and it's usually cheaper than auto parts stores. Can't beat Costco though especially when they have their $10 off coupon on a 6-quart box of Mobil 1. Might want to check out Wix filters too on Amazon. They make the NAPA Gold filter.

Mobile 1 is a fine substitute. Actually, any 0W-40 oil with the API donut on the back is acceptable. It does not have to meet the exact MS standards that are recommended in your manual.

I was just into my local Walmart yesterday and noticed they carry 0W-40 Pennzoil Premium, but not Ultra Premium. Walmart price is usually better than AutoZone or Advanced Auto around here.

In the 70's through the 2000's I felt the same way. I wouldn't use Pennzoil to start a fire with.

But, the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is some really good oil. I was very pleasantly surprised at the UOA from my truck with PUP 5w30.

I started using the High Mileage version when I had my E350. Ran better than with any others oil I used in a gas engine.
I ran it in my Tinder and now this 1500.

I too recall the paraffin based Pennsoil that left a gummy residue in the engines. Terrible stuff to use for long milage. Maybe just for one change if you could not find anything else. The synthetics are different. I'm going to use the stuff RAM recommends now because I am under warranty. I received the longer oil filter (20-500) and was a little surprised it is still very narrow. Still not very large but I guess it works well enough especially since I will change oil more frequently than recommended.

The paraffin-based Pennzoil was good oil, but the only people who benefited from it were race car drivers who changed their oil daily.
