Going to try out the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 for my next oil change in my 5.7 hemi. I will also be adding a 15oz bottle of lubegard to add some more moly and use the royal purple 20-820 filter like I always use. I've been using schaeffers supreme 9000 5w30 for awhile and been happy with it but it's getting expensive and having to always pay for shipping is getting old. I want to switch to something i can grab off the shelf at the store. The Mobil 1 esp 0w30 comes highly recommended by Burla and Travis8352.

I don't recall what that has for Moly additive - you might look on BITOG for a VOA, or maybe someone put one here in the BLACSTONE thread.

I have zero short term memory, so that.

But I do know we estimated a minimum Mo level of 250 ppm is required to have maximum impact on lifter roller wear reduction. I won't get into that assessment again here, but brands like Red Line and HPL go way overkill on Mo to ensure no issues.

So yes, if you know Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 is 80 ppm Moly, I would concur to add LubeGard Moly supplement. I'm using expensive HPL SuperCar 0W-30 in my Hemi 6.4, and Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 in my GDI turbo motors.

That's why I liked schaeffers, it has alot of moly in it. Im not sure how much moly a 15oz bottle of the lubegard will add to the say 70 or 80 ppm of moly already in the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30?

Want to buy something “off the shelf at the store”..??

WalMart SuperTech is as good as ANY major brand. In fact, it is IDENTICAL specs, produced/bottled by either Warren Oil (who makes it for major brands) …OR is made by SOSUS (SHell Oil Co)

You can throw your money on other oil if you want to…but all you’re doing for the most part, is paying for a name if you do.

I like Quaker State Full Synthetic. It has moly between 190 and 260 ppm. I have used this in my 2004 Ram 5.7 since new and have had no issues with the QS. I also use it I my 1998 Grand Cherokee.
Based on recent, albeit varying, data for Quaker State Full Synthetic (formerly Ultimate Durability/QSUD), the molybdenum (moly) content typically ranges between 190 ppm and 260 ppm.

Maybe I was using a different blend of 5W-20 Mobil 1, but I found that letting it sit for awhile a large pool of black-colored additive had dispersed and settled to the bottom of the bottles. Shaking the bottles reduced this, but I still felt it was unsettling.

PUP had additive settling some years back - IDK if they fix that by adding more ester base oil to stop dropout or what. The ester oil is what holds additives in suspension. Something like 8% or so of total base oil. For oils such as Red Line, there is MORE than that amount of ester base oil. That is to resist higher temperature oil oxidation. Ester oil is not as good a lubricant as PAO syn base oil, btw. But it does cling to metal surfaces bette.

There's nothing technically wrong with the oil. I routinely shake oil jugs before filling today. 50 years ago they didn't have so many additives because the engines were far cruder machines.

I use SuperTech, all the time, and have been for years. I top it off with Zmax. My sons Ram quit using oil, once he started using Zmax. It must have cleaned the carbon build up on the rings.‍♂️

Not a good idea to use 5-30. It can cause the MDF to work not as good as 20 w is whats called for! Vavoline is as good as Penzoil in most tests.

My dude, this has been debunked for over a decade. 0W-40 is spec'd for the 6.4L HEMI truck engine. It has the identical MDS system.

The low viscosity 20 is for EPA CAFE fuel economy ONLY. Wearing down your engine faster for all of +0.3 mpg.
Please research before posting uninformed opinion.

What’s wrong with sticking with the OEM recommended 5W20 in a full synthetic oil purchased on sale using a good quality filter, and changing on approximately a 5 k mile interval? My 16 Ram 1500 Hemi has about 160k miles, no hemi tick, no issues. The additive package that is provided during creation of the oil is there for a reason and, unless you’ve actually been made privy by lab analysis to some special properties your magic elixir of choice claims to provide, you’re just wasting your money and potentially harming the qualities of the oil.
