Hoping someone here may have some experience or thoughts that can help me sort out some gremlins in a 2005 Ram 1500 SLT QC that i just picked up. This was a fleet vehicle that had oil changes every 6000 miles. Nothing else was done in terms of maintenance. The truck has a little under 110k miles. The PO's shop was using Carquest filters and who knows what type of oil. I've had the truck for 2 weeks. The truck runs good/smooth IMO, plenty of power and no noticeable issues from a driving perspective.
Issue 1 - CEL Code P0460 - EGR Valve
I ordered a Dorman replacement off amazon, figured i would give it a shot but gave up after after trying to get at it for an hour. While i had the intake apart i replaced all the plugs. they looked to be original. - pic attached, gap was at least 0.60. I have a local shop that quoted $120 to install the EGR and test the system, more power to them. I got this scheduled for installation on 6/27
Issue 2 - PCV Valve noise
After replacing the plugs i also replaced the PCV valve, i used a FRAM replacement, after this was installed the truck bogged down at low rpm and even shut off. The new valve tapped like crazy and was extremely loud. I reinstalled the mopar orginal and things got better. I'm thinking the FRAM is at fault? I have an OEM Mopar PCV valve on order to see if this helps. I'm also going to have the shop perform a pressure/leak down teast on the PCV system when they pop in the EGR Valve.
Issue 3 - Oil Pressure not registering on gauge at start-up
tonight on three occasions the check gauges light comes on and the oil gauge doesn't budge. if i immediately shut down the engine then restart it the reading is normal. I haven't had an issues with the reading while driving. I have an OEM sending unit replacement on order to see if this helps. The engine sounds fine when this occurs.
I'm concerned about oil pump failure due to sludge.. the oil cap had some crud but it wasn't really bad. Just looked like 10 years of old oil build up, not really discolored/yellow. I'm planning to flush the engine crankcase w/ Seafoam, install an OEM Mopar filter (on order) along with moving to Castrol GTX Partial Synthetic. Once i flush it and dump the oil I should be able to look for signs of sludge. I added a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner earlier this week prior to the oil pressure issue. Not sure if its related but i doubt it. If the pressure sender switch doesn't make a difference i may look into hooking up a manual gauge, not sure how to do this yet.
I also ordered a cheap bore-scope that works w/ andriod/laptop devices. Hoping to throw it in the engine Pan and look around for sludge. It looks like pulling the pan or valve covers is a PITA.
Please let me know if you have any experience with any of these issues, I paid $4200 for the truck through an auction, NAPA puts it at $9k. I'ts not a daily driver and i don't want to dump 3K+ in her to get it running right.
