08 Ram, OEM tailgate lock different than ignition key?

Sorry for noob question, I've searched but haven't found a thread about this specifically. Is the tailgate key the same as the ignition key?

I sold my 2008 Ram 1500 to a family member, and they've asked for the tailgate key. I recall it came with an OEM tailgate lock from the dealership, but I never used it. My relative wants to put a cover on the bed and lock it all up.

I told them I don't recall getting a separate key, but they say the ignition key isn't working. I suspect that it is supposed to be the same key, and if it's really not working, there's something jammed inside the tailgate lock that's preventing it from functioning.

Not sure. I know that the 14's are the same key. Not sure about the 08's though. I would take it too the dealership and have them check it out.

There was no factory locking tailgate option for 3rd gen trucks. It is something aftermarket that the dealer or someone else had installed on the truck. Most aftermarket locking tailgate handles require a separate key.

Ow that sucks. I do know the Ram Box uses the ignition key though.

I have an 05 with a locking tailgate and it came with a separate key.
