Hey all I finally decided to bite the bullet and made an appointment with my mechanic to get my front + rear end fluids changed as well as tranny fluid. Seems like the best thing to do if I plan on keeping it for another 120k. Does anyone have any other suggestions to keep it going strong? It’s pretty clean overall just some bumper rust and a little spot on the oil pan, frame is absolutely solid especially for a northeastern truck

Take these instructions to your mechanic and make sure he levels the transmission, not the truck.
If he gives you static, let him know these are the instructions that come with a "brand new" truck specific 8 speed when bought through a dealer

You might have him inspect the U-joints and front axles if it’s 4WD. The front axles (and joints) rotate/move anytime the vehicle moves.

(Attempt at humor: I’m surprised the OEM recommendation is to assure the transmission is “level to the floor” . A shop floor may not be “level”….built upon a slope would give a false impression of fluid level.) ;)

Ive already had my passenger cv axle replaced around 105k, the locking ring broke and it slipped off. Luckily didn’t cause a lot of damage and the 4wd still engages. Since been replaced and hasn’t fallen off again so knock on wood

At 220K I had my 2012 U-joints, front CV-axles, both diffs, txfr-case fluid ($$$), ignition plugs/wires, brakes complete, new Michelin tires, and new H.D. rear bumper….drove it to KY on vacation…arrived 3 days later…and… got no addt’l consideration on value from insurance when the other guy ran his red light…..20240903_200954.jpeg1726240786708.jpeg

A common carpenter’s bubble-level against the pan will give a good reference.
That’s what my mechanic used-Quick_Shifter- to verify the transmission being level.
“close enough or should be ok” are words never spoken at his shop, that is one of the many reasons I’m happy to drive a few hours to him work on my truck.

10/10 would recommend the trans and diff service. Truck feels like butter again after towing and carrying loads way past capacity + beach driving, definitely wouldnt let the miles scare you these trans must be built for 100K+ service intervals

South east PA, Marcus Hook.
I literally would drive twice as far to get to his shop, well worth it to me to have a mechanic I trust completely.
As a bonus he’s a great guy, all the modern tools but with a old school work ethnic, going to his shop is similar to going to your favorite barber.

Thank you. He identified himself to me also. I was living almost next door to him in Swarthmore. I need some work done and will reach out. I’m sure we both appreciate the endorsement.

Yeah a 10 minute drive from swarthmore Reach out to me on here. If you call the shop you’ll get our receptionist that will happily get you on the schedule but she’s not going to be answering questions. We text quotes and recommendations in a formal format. Since we do the alignments for all the body shops and a lot of other local shops the phone rings a lot and she can’t stay on the line quoting clients
