Moving from a 1500 to the 2500 after realizing I will need the extra capacity.

Concerned with the difficulty of moving the big rig around in a city enviorment, when not towing.

Driving isn't so much the problem, it's going to be parking it. I'm sure you can manage but it's not going to be as easy as a 1500 that's for sure. I don't think I would want to drive any truck around in a big city period but that's coming from a country boy Lol.

It’s parking you have to worry about. The truck is longer(maybe significantly), and doesn’t maneuver as well due to the solid front axle setup. Mine is too tall to fit in most of the underground parking downtown. Always back in. Park at the end of rows when possible, or where you can pull straight out.

Before I picked up my current Charger I was driving mine into the city for work literally every week day. No real complaints worth bringing up. It is much easier to see in the Ram then in the Charger. Unless there is a real truck in front of you, you can literally just see over everything. The big side mirrors make driving and parking easy. If you ever park in a parking garage just make sure to scout out the clearance before. And it helps to have an end spot. I get in early so no worries there.

Just be prepared... stop and go city absolutely kills MPG in the truck. For comparison on the same exact commute my Charger will do 14 MPG, that is with 500HP. The Ram does about 9. This is with the bigger tires though.

I have the cc 8’ bed. Parking is fun. I always park far away as possible and backing in as said above is best bet. I’m mostly in the country but when in San Antonio is tight squeeze sometimes. I feel like my tranny in this truck hates city driving also. I keep her in 3 or 4 When in city

The overall length of a 1500 crew cab with the 5' - 7" box is 229 inches and a 4x4 truck in stock trim is 77.5" tall.

The overall length of a 2500 crew cab with the 6' - 4" box is 237 inches and a 4x4 truck in stock trim is 77.7" tall.

Specs came from Ram's website.

So, as you can see there's not a huge amount of difference between the two trucks except for length.

I find pull through spots in parking lots vs. using ones I only have one way in or out of. And, I make sure I give plenty of room on corners and not cut too close. I hate curbing wheels.

My 2500 is my daily driver, and it's easy to drive around. However, you will have to be selective on how and where you park it.

I daily drive my 3500 (single cab, long bed, single rear wheel, 4x4) at home in the sticks. I also have to use it for business, in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Parking is more of a pain than for small cars, but it's really not any worse than my F150 with a 6 1/2' bed was.

Fold your mirrors when needed, and I always try to back in. The camera is awesome.

As far as mileage, I was shocked when the computer showed me 18.5 commuting between San Jose and Palo Alto for a week of rush hour traffic. It's not stop & go, but is mostly slow rolling along (20-40 mph) and the Cummins idles at 10-15, so I'm really not using much throttle in bad traffic. I try and avoid massive speed changes, and just go with the flow. That said, I'm not afraid to nail the throttle to get into a spot I like.

I think there's a pretty big difference between the 6.5' and 8' beds. That extra 1.5' really screws you out of a lot of spots both lengthwise and ability to turn in/out of them. I daily drive my 2500 4X4 6.5' bed and do okay with it. I can fit into 90% of the spots as I do with the family minivan that I drive on the weekends. I usually only get screwed when some a-hole in a Prius parks on the stripe. The backup sensors and camera really make driving/parking these monsters easier.

That’s got to be wrong Maddog, no way the 3/4ton is only .2 taller... even in stock form

Yeah. He is right about the actual specs posted though. I have seen those on Ram’s site as well. But it can’t be right. Or it is not measuring the actual overall heights and refers to something we are missing. The day I picked up my 2500 completely bone stock it was a couple inches taller than my Bilstein leveled 1500 parked side by side. Wish I had a pic.

I think the gasser 2500s are also a little taller than the Cummins ones from the factory. And I believe all 3500s are a little taller than the 2500s. I think Don wrote about this on Thuren's website.

It’s the same as a 1500 just taller

I got scratches on my roof at dfw airport in Dallas from their parking garages. I was super careful with it and figured if my stock antenna would clear I was cautiously good to go. WRONG!!!fef45848e0e6d9d3a1d0bffb0d5e336b.jpg

Id guess if it has the off road pkg it must be slightly taller

I think that the only way that the 77.7” measurements are right is if all 4 tires on the 25/3500 trucks were flat. [emoji23]

My crew cab 6'4" box 1500 is the same wheelbase and dimensions apart from height as a crew cab short box 2500/3500 and I don't really notice much difference between my quad cab truck, which is shorter by 8" and the crew. As long as you're not going to a longbox or you have a garage that just barely fits your current truck I wouldn't worry.

Took the specs off Dodge's website, gents. I have no reason to believe they are right or not right.

I don't see myself headed to the Dodge dealer's lot to measure a 1500 and a 2500.

As far as Dodge's data, well, it might be wrong. I got a good look at a 1500 Ecodiesel yesterday and I think yer right.
