I was waiting in my friend's 2017 Bighorn while he was
in a doctors office.
All was quiet, key was in the truck and removed from ign, all systems off.
Every 10 minutes I would hear a humming from the right dash followed
by a hard drive booting sound.

Anyone know what this power drain is and why it was happening?
Has all options, 8" U connect.

My 17 Sport makes a air whooshing sound when I am cleaning my interior or a noise of some sort. I am not concerned currently. Ignition button not pushed.

Totally normal. The noises should stop after about 10-15 minutes as long as you don't open a door or push any buttons.

No idea what is going on when it does this but I have never been left stranded by a dead battery.

Turn the auto settings off, the truck can sense the key fob and will prep certain features.

There are a quite a few, so when in doubt turn it off.

I think what you are hearing are blend doors actuating in the HVAC ductwork.

They cycle periodically for some time after the ignition is killed and will cycle when a door is opened.

Why FCA does this I have no idea, but it's been a thing on FCA vehicles for years now.

Let's take some fragile and impossible to get at components and cycle the crap out of them!

so how do you explain the trucks that don't have the push button start do the same thing? or if the keys are no where near vehicle it will still do the same thing?
There is no need to turn Auto anything off, not going to change what's happening.

@PoMansRam has it correct about the HVAC system resetting the actuator doors.

Now that I think about it, the only FOB acknowledgment I can think of outside the alphaOBD features is the auto-headlight on approach without keyless start.

Yup this is exactly whats happening.

It wouldn't be so bad if the actuators were all easy to get to. But the recirc actuator and the passenger blend door actuator on dual zone models require pulling the dash to replace.

I'd take the old lever and vacuum HVAC systems any day over this electric crap.
