Will a 1972 front clip (fenders and hood forward) go on a 1990 pickup?

yes, but you will want to include the core support from the older truck if you want to use the 72 grille/headlight buckets. but the 1972 core support was flimsy and prone to stress cracks. They were made much more robust from 1973 and on.
