This is my first bullydog product and first gas tuner. Opening the shipping box I was very surprised at how small the tuner it self was. Smaller than a credit card.

Downloading the software:
Downloading the update agent was a no brainer. The instructions want you to use a Microsd card adapter provided with the kit but the driver wizard on the computer wants you to plug in the tuner its self. So This is where it was part user error and part bulldog needing to put out a little better instructions. First I used the supplied adapter to download the update to the Microsd card and it seemed to take. So after it was downloaded a screen pops up giving instructions to power up the tuner press the second button from top to esc from usb mode. So this would mean that the tuner should be plugged into the computer. So I put the microsd card in the tuner used the supplied usb cord and plugged it in. It booted up but wouldn't let me do anything. So about an hour later of uninstalling and re installing the software and update and getting know where I had to take a break.(started a 4 am on sunday morning, so no tech support help available) so I waited about 45 min for the sun to come up a little and for the snow to all but stop went out to the truck and started to run the power supply for the tuner. 45 min later and freezing got it ran, hooked to a power source. I still need to find a fuse that is "keyed on". So I figured I'd plug the tuner in and see what would happened. Go though the steps of updating and installing and vehicle not supported appears. After a few more tries downloading the software update it finally took and was able to tune my truck

The Tune:
Three options to choose from. Stock, Regular, and Performance. I went with regular to start with since I have a full tank of 87. Left a majority of the options stock along with wheel size rpm shift points at WOT. Changed speed limit to 116, turned MDS off. After letting the tuner do it's thing and cycling the key a few times it was ready to go. Luckily I had to go get some groceries so it gave me an excuse to go for a ride. As soon as I touched the throttle I could tell it was different. I didn't go WOT right off just wanted to get a feel of the throttle response and relatively normal driving. Throttle response is excellent, not a huge difference in power but a noticeable difference. I was able to take a 20 mile round trip later to see "highway" speeds. I did get to pass a few people and I did notice that it had more "get up and go". From that little trip I did gain .5 mpg.

Overall Impressions Thus Far:
For giving canned tunes and the setting they allow you to change, it's not bad tuner. I haven't had a lot of driving time with it and time to play with the tuner. I'm hoping in the next day or two to do some data logging with it and post some numbers. I'll keep giving updates on mpg's and thoughts on how everything is working together.

Thanks, very helpful, keep us posted. I am trying to decide between the Bullydog and the Diablo Trinity... When they have tunes for a '13.

Do keep me posted. I bought a 2011 Ram used and it shifted hard..I had a 2010 ram I traded in on it. The 2011 is 4x4 and I believe there was a tune installed because it shifted hard as hell even in cruising speed. No hesitation. It also had a K&N cai and flowmaster on it.

I put my trinity in and put it on 93 performance...my hard shifts are gone :( so Im guessing it may have had the Bullydog on it. Let me know how your shifts were. These shifts were precise and you could feel the pressure was upped when it shifted into gear at cruising and WOT. I think you can change the shift firmness on the BD so let me know! lol.

I played with the WOT on my Trinity and messed around some with the shift stuff in the Trinity. Better but not what it was

i doubt it had a tuine on it because if it did your trinity would not have been able to write its own tune on the truck

I had to update vehicle by hooking trinity to the computer before it would let me install it in the vehicle. Something was deff added. I had a 96 Thunder Bird 4.6liter and installed an electronic shift kit. It shifted hard when it was on and reminded me of the shifts in the 2011.....

When I test drove the 2011 I was like dang this thing shifts hard, I was worried it was little too hard. When I got home and updated the trinity and installed the shifts were just like the ones in my 2010 2wd sluggish. Before you could feel the truck sort of "jump" into gear. Any thoughts?

yea but you have to update every trinity to get the latest software for your truck what i meant was that if it had a tune installed when you bought it you would of had to have your computer reflashed by the dealer back to original settings before your trinity would work on it. but as far as it shifting like that before i have no clue what it could of been except maybe it has a sonnax line booster on the transmission but i dont see why it would go soft again after the trinity was installed

Great review. I'm excited to see what you think about the performance tune once you get some higher octane fuel in there.

So according to Mike at Diablo it is possible my truck had a tune on it before it "calibrated and updated" the vehicle. Dang if only I knew which tuner it was!!! lol

"Yes, it is possible that there was a tune, and it would have been set back to stock once the calibration update went in.

Thanks"

From my understanding...(but then you got that response from Diablo) a tune cannot over write another tune. It would have to be set back to stock for another tuner to work.
But Im not 100% sure

That was my understanding as well. DS has the disclaimer that "only stock tuned vehicles" should be retuned with their handheld devices. I comes up every time you access the tuning menus so it must be important.

I know but what was different about this was I had to update the tuner via computer for the vehicle. Then before I could do anything it said "writing vehicle" and it took a while. This is when it over wrote the previous tune thus taking programming it back to stock tune. Only then was I able to use the trinity and install the tune. According to Diablo if your truck was tuned by a friend with his tuner and then you bought a Trinity you could use the trinity on your vehicle, it would just remove overwrite the other tune making it stock again, enabling you to install the canned tunes from trinity.

Now your friends tuner would be in a bind because he couldnt use it on another truck. I know it works that way making the tuner obsolete.

Like I said, I am not 100% sure.
But updating the Tuner via your computer is required....you need to get the current tunes before you write it to your truck. Writing it to you truck is what it should be doing and all tuners do this and yes it does take a few minutes to write.
All I know is I had my truck calibrated via a Hypertech Speedo kit. I tried to tuner before resetting my vehicle back to stock and it gave me an error because a previous tune had been detected. It wasn't a tune rather a calibration, but it did know and sense there was something there.
I was going to set my truck back to stock because I sold this Hypertech and knew it had to be VIN released, but wanted to try it first and see what happened.
None the less, I put the truck back to stock and then it wrote the tune in without a hitch.
Again, I could be wrong here....but this is just what I had experienced

I have a Bully Dog Gas Tuner in my 2010 Ram, I set it to Performance and it has a lot of get up and go I set my speed limiter at 136 (Cause I could) and she pretty much fly's passed anything and everything, with the tuner I get roughly 20mpg on highway (4 more than average) Overall I believe it was worth the money

I spoke with a bullydog tech today and they recommend 93 for their performance tune.
