Well, when I first noticed this failure I was furious. I called my 4 3/4 year old Ram every name under the sun. After a cooling off period and I started taking all the factors into consideration such as mileage at time of failure 149,373 and darn near as many Idle hours @ 2615 as driving hours @ 3530 all in a deep southern state this part over-performed. All things considered you could say it’s about time the left side of my plastic radiator tank split in a molding seam.
I got out to fuel up and got a huge whiff of engine coolant, my heart sank as I knew exactly what was happening. At first I couldn’t figure out the source of the leak but I could see the orange coolant on the side of the fuse box and also where it had run down from the hose inlet. I determined that it was a bad clamp so to the part store I went. A few days after replacing the clamp I had déjè vu when I got another whiff. My second diagnosis (guess) was a hole in the hose at the clamp. I cut about an inch off the hose and re-clamped. 3 days later same scenario. During this time I’m buying a gallon of orange juice every 2 days. After almost 2 weeks of searching the enemy finally showed its face. A 1 inch split in the plastic, straight down, dead center right above that tab where a plug attaches to it.
So heres to Mopar and $400 bucks, I think I’ll do the install myself. Until the next failure….I love my RAM!
