I'm looking into buying a new truck soon. Looking at a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Crew Cab SLT 5.7 liter V8. Has 110,000 miles on it. Haven't gone in person to see it, drive it, check it out in depth. What should I look for? Is 110,000 miles too much? I've purchased cars with over 100,000 miles with confidence because I know how to work on them and keep them maintained. My 05 magnum wagon hit 300,000 with ease and still runs. Any advice would be great before i go see it. I'll be taking my scan tool and see if they let me scan it myself.

A 5.7 would be a hemi gas motor.

In 2010 the only diesel was the 6.7 Cummings.

Your right. Went back to check it. 5.7 diesel didn't make sense to me. Not sure if there is one but just sounded like a gas. Description had "diesel engine" vin verified Gas. Still the question remains. What should I look for im a truck.

Check for codes, listen for broken manifold bolts. That's all I have.

With 110,000 miles on the truck your main concern would be the camshift/lifters. Start the truck and listen for a ticking noise. You’ll have ticking right at startup for a few seconds but if it persists after that and when the engine is warm you’re in for a big repair

Who knows what kind of oil, and how often the previous owner changed it. Especially being a 2010, the 2010/2011 year trucks are notorious for having a lifter wipe out the camshaft.

The 2500’s 5.7 don’t have as many lifter cam issues. They run different cam and no mds. I have a 2014 with 115k no issues really. Fluids. Replace all fluids. Been a solid truck.

Probably time for some front end work at that age/mileage. My son has an automotive repair shop and that's about when things start to wear depending.
Not a real big deal but you should be aware.

Is this a relatively good truck to do my own work on? I've done all my own work on my last 2 cars and girl's car. Did all the front end suspension on my dodge magnum. Didn't need it, just wanted to upgrade it. Hit 300,000 with ease. Transmission work on mustang and dodge journey. I want something I can do my own work on.

I work on mine. My tools limit me from further stuff. But suspension and gen maint are easy to do. In fact the oil filter in the hd truck vs the 1500 is sooo much better location.

So I would say even with the mileage that it has. If the truck doesn't have any codes, a good record of maintenance and any repairs that It should get to over 200,000 with proper care.

Unless you need the 2500 payload I would look for a 1500 instead. For the same price it will be newer, low miles, drive nicer... Better gas mileage... ;)

Grammar is syntax and sentence construction, not spelling.

Who cares? Did you understand what I said? You must have to keep correcting me on one spelling mistake that my Ipad helped change. Now go find something important to whine about.

A lot of people incorrectly call the HD diesel a "Cummings". All you had to do reply to my first post was: "My bad, auto-correct error."

Did you get your feelings hurt? How do you react when someone really disrespects you? My guess is uncontrollable rage. Good luck with that in life.
