My niece is looking at buying a 2014 Ram 1500 Eco Diesel. I am not real familiar with the diesels. What are some things to look for when I go to see it?

Looks ok, other than the price (seems a bit high). KBB shows average price is abut 5 grand lower

You're showing private party range on the KBB, but the truck is at a dealer, right?

Early 1500 EDs (Gen 2s) were either a boom or a bust. Some are still on the road with hundreds of thousands of miles while others have grenaded engines that are too costly to repair. I would want a mechanic to give it a REALLY thorough look to see if it's worth the hassle. Personally, I'd skip the Gen2 EDs and find a Gen3 instead (2020-2023). The newer motor design addressed a lot of the Gen2 issues. If an engine replacement is needed, it can cost upwards of $20k+.

Yes it is at a dealer. It is not a Dodge/Ram (or any other brand dealer), so, need a starting point for haggling.

How's your niece going to drive the truck, if it's for city daily driving probably best to have her look for a gasser. If she's going to be putting a fair amount of freeway driving, it might be a worthwhile as it could get 25 mpg or better. Modern diesel emissions systems like to be kept hot, it's doubtful the truck is deleted since a dealership is selling it (not to say that they don't sell deleted trucks).

2 words "Run Away",lol. If she buys it,get all the warrenty you can get
It's at a little auto lot, probably a 30 day 50/50 parts/labor warranty on it at most.

I was reading this thread here and I do think I'll get her to steer clear of it.
