2.5 in Rough Country Leveling Kit

Just purchased a 14 Ram 1500. I ordered a Rough Country 2.5 inch leveling kit. I've heard a lot of people say that I should replace the UCA's, and others are telling me I will be fine with just a 2.5 level kit. I plan on running a 275/65/20 tire. Truck has 37K miles, any recommendations pros/cons of just doing the 2.5 leveling kit?

It is highly recommended to change out your UCAs with a 2.5" level. There's a 95% chance you will have ball joint failure. I wouldn't risk it. The ball joint could pop out at any time and it could be dangerous. For the extra $100, its SO worth it.

Any reason you chose a leveling kit over Bilsteins? Just curious.

I find it hard to believe that people recommended a 2.5" spacer.

1. I wouldn't run a spacer over 2"

2. I wouldn't run a spacer.

First time owning a Ram...should've done my research before ordering. After digging around in here, I've come to the conclusion I need to send them back and order some Bilsteins!!

I wouldn't recommend spacers unless they are 2 piece. Bils were on mega back order when I wanted to level. I put on a 2 piece and it's been fine with my factory UCA's. Bout 14000 miles now.

The rough country is a 2 piece I believe. The problem with spacers is the added down travel that the suspension can't handle. Bilsteins keep down travel the same as factory but allow more up travel.

2 days ago i installed the 2.5 leveling kit on my 2010 ...the Rough country dealer said no problem on the 2010 ....is that true that the problem is on 2013 and above ???

I used a spacer on a 2011 ram about 5 years ago... I read on this same forum, not to go over 2" with spacers...so I didn't and didn't have any issues for the year I had them. Still would never go back to spacers, especially over 2". But to answer your question. I don't know lol.

A 2 piece spacer does not alleviate the issue at all. They still allow the suspension to overextend which is where the ball joints will pop. Likely before the truck is even put back on the ground. Bilsteins are the only way of keeping the suspension travel within OEM specs and avoiding ball joint problems.

On 06-12 trucks spacers are near as much of an issue as the upper A-arm design was different. Ball joints popping on them is very rare. In 2013 they changed the A-arm design and that is where the ball joint issues come into play.

I spent the extra money and ordered the Rancho 2.25" quick lift from Moe's. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. They gave me the room i needed to run the 35" toyo M/Ts.

Yes that is correct. I haven't heard of any 06-12 trucks popping ball joints because of a leveling kit. If you use Bilsteins you certainly won't have any issues.
