2000w amp install

I have a 2021 Ram 2500 6.4L Hemi. I will be installing either a 1500w or 2000w amp to push 2 subs. I believe I have the 180 amp alternator. Will my electrical system be able to push the amp without any electrical upgrades?

2000 watts at 12 volts is roughly 166.6 amps,i think you'd be wise to do the Big 3 wiring upgrade,and you might even want to upgrade the alternator to.

Amplifiers will not present a constant load to the electrical system. Music does not pull full power 100% of time you're listening to it. Sub amps pull more than amps to the rest of the system but about the only way your 2000w sub amp is going to draw full power is if your running a 30hz sine wave or you listen to your rap music full tilt, a/c blasting for an hour or longer. If that's the case then yeah you may need some help to the electrical system and probably will need hearing aids later in life.

BTW, my system (23' Bighorn) is close to 3000w on stock alty, agm battery and it doesn't skip a beat.

A second battery would be more beneficial than a high capacity alternator.

I have 1800w total, but its 1000w for 2 subs and the other 800w is mids and tweets. I don't have any issues with my electrical.

And that's most likely all max power, not actual RMS ratings of your equipment. Huge difference. RMS is the only way you should be measuring your system

They sound like the max power ratings on those amps. Very doubtful that the true RMS rating for those amps is going to be 1500 or 2,000. Take a look at the fuses on those amps, that will tell you the true power when you calculate it based on vehicle voltage

Probably right on here ↑ however, my sub amp is true 1500w RMS and amp powering front speakers is 1300w RMS. My electrical doesn't skip a beat. People get attached to terms such as "the big 3" and "HO Alternator" when the stock system will do justice 90% of the time. Now if your pushing a 5000w SPL, 4 x 15" sub system, then yes you're going to have trouble.

I am currently running 2100W of external Kenwood amps (two in total to make 2100W) in my 4th Gen Warlock with 9 x speakers and 2 x 10" competition subs with zero issues whatsoever. Plus pushing the stock Alpine amp, too (for the two roof speakers and the dash mounted center channel).

However, I do run an H8 AGM Odyssey battery and a db 5-farad digital capacitor as well.

As long as it's all installed correctly and you have the right battery and capacitor, you should be good to go.

That's just solely based on my current experiences though.

Caveat.... I also have several heavy gauge 'extra' grounds throughout my truck as well! ;)
Better grounding vs the stock set up is a known plus for our trucks, especially if one has an audio system of any significance.

That's my $0.02 :)

Its RMS. I have a JL vxi 800/8 and calibrated with a SMD DD1 plus. Although rated at 75w rms, all 8 channels put out 100w rms <1% THD using a 1khz test tone and a 3db overlap. The sub amp is a JL HD 1200/1 that I have set for 1000w rms with no overlap. It is powering two JL 12TW3. So total system power is 1800w RMS... Its a SQ build and while not a "bass van" it will move your hair and tickle your nose.. :D
