Hello,

I have a 2001 V6 1500 and am looking to add a bit of sound to my exhaust system, which is stock. I really don't know anything about exhaust and I'm not really looking to spend that much on improving my exhaust, so I would like to know if anyone can give me some advice on what I should be looking to put on. I'm thinking Flowmaster would sound nice, but again, I don't really know. Cheaper is better put I don't want something that will sound bad. If I could get away with simply putting a muffler on that would be great. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I will be sorely honest with you: in the ears/eyes/minds of most people, a V6 will not sound good with any added bit of sound.

However, you might consider a turbo-style muffler. It adds a bit more sound and, if you buy Thrush, is cheap. ($27)

+1, probably would be best to just leave it stock. V6's just dont sound good IMO. I had a Dakota 3.9L V6 with a cherry bomb glass pack, it was quite the noise. Not one Id want to replicate.

You can actually get a decent sound from the V6 by using true duals and deleting the stock y pipe & cat. I have set up several V6 dodge engines with true duals in everything from various year Rams to a V6 charger, and I think you get the best, most powerful sound from either straight pipe (no mufflers) with resonated tips, or glasspacks. If you use a y pipe or cat, and mix the exhaust at any point, it will sound like a fart cannon on a ricer car. With unrestricted true duals, it will have a slight lope like a small V8 at idle, and a throaty roar under acceleration. You will also gain a slight increase in power and throttle response, and at least 2 of the Ram owners we converted to this setup reported gains in fuel economy. If you want it on the quiet side, but still want the more powerful sound and performance improvements, try using the 14" magnaflow universal mufflers.
