2002 4.7 1500 P0307 code

Hello all, first post.

I have a 2002 ram 4.7 automatic with about 85000 miles on it. My son acquired it about a year ago and had problems with over heating. We finally found a hole in the radiator but not after 2 or 3 check engine lights came on due to overheating. After the last overheated incident it would not start. When it did finally start it sounded horrible. Lots of ticking and pounding on valve covers. We took off valve cover on drivers side and found rocker arms thrown. One on #1 and one on #7. Was able to set rocker arms back into place. Replaced valve cover gasket. Replaced all spark plugs with appropriate gap, replaced coil on #7 and #8, cleaned connections on all coils, and o2 sensors, did oil change. Cleared codes, fired up truck, drove about 50 miles, check engine light came back on and threw large and small evap leak and p0307 cylinder #7 misfire. Replaced hoses and cleaned out evap system, replaced vacuum hoses. Cleared codes. Replaced #1 and #7 injectors. Cleared codes. Drove again until check engine. Same P0307 cylinder #7 misfire. Did compression test on all cylinders. All cylinders were between 149 and 151 psi. After that replaced intake gaskets, air flow temperature sensor, and PCV valve. Cleared codes and drove. P0307 again. It idles well with slight miss around 1500 to 2000 rpm, other than that drives great. Spark plug #7 pulls out wet with gas, other plugs are dry. Also on code reader the only code that is showing is the P0703, but I/M indicator is showing that the o2 sensors and HRT are not ready, even after being driven over 100 miles after codes were cleared. Trying to get it inspected for son to take back to college, but no luck. Sorry for the wall of text, but trying to give a good description for all. Any help appreciated

Brian

Aluminum heads, steel block. Chances are you warped the cylinder heads and have blown the head gaskets.

Doesn't necessarily mean you will get water in the oil or oil in the water, but the water is seeping into the cylinder especially when you shut it off.

You need to go to a reputable place that has one of those kits for checking for exhaust gases in the glycol. If it comes up positive then the head gasket is surely blown.

Aluminum and steel have such a different coefficient of expansion that is more than likely the problem. Sorry to not be able to offer you hope. Please post back when you discover the problem.

And welcome to the forum :)

Thank you for the quick response, I forgot to note that there was no water in oil and no oil in water. I will check around for the kit you mentioned.

Pulled the valve cover back off and #7 rocker arm was off again !! Put back on and cleared codes, installed new lash adjuster on #7, ran for about 25 miles, seems to be better. Gonna run more today and try to inspect in the morning. Will give an update.

Wow more fun. Got cylinder #1 misfire. Got some high temp rtv and took off intake. Put it around #1 and #3, let sit overnight. Ran today until cylinder #1 code came up again and small and large evap, 0442 and 0455 I believe. Gonna have to take it to dealer to check out evap system I guess.
