2002 Ram 1500 4.7 engine swap to 2004 Ram 1500 4.7

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with a 4.7. It has 300k and is smoking bad. I bought a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd with a 4.7 and 77k miles. I noticed the 2002 has 2 computers and the 2004 has 1. That is the only obvious thing I can see different in the bay. Will the engines swap? And is there anything special I need to do to swap them out?

Has to do with the tone rings. If you keep the harness with the motor it came with out of the donor, it should be ok. But I'm not certain what else that harness talks to or doesn't talk to. Worth a shot. Easier than swapping tone rings. But you've got a complete donor, so I'd swap everything from it over to your 04. Start there. Worst case, at least you've got it all...

1999-2002 4.7L - Jtec PCMs (3-plug PCM) use a 16 tooth tone ring
2003-2007 4.7L - NGC PCM (4-Plug PCM) use a 32 tooth tone ring
2008-up 4.7L - Im not sure, they may still use the NGC 32 tooth tone ring.

Hey man, wondering if you ever ended up doing this and if you ran into any issues?
I have an 02 that is toast and found a 03 engine but am told they are different. The new one comes with the computer and harness... I am just not sure if it's worth the hassle or whether I should just look for a new ride as this truck is pretty jank haha

You have the newer style (started in 2008) so if you need a replacement you have to find a 2008 or newer engine. They are very different from the 02-07.
