Hey everyone,
Truck Info:
2003 Ram 1500 SLT
Quad Cab 4WD
5.7 Hemi
Standard Stereo (No Infinity)
I recently acquired a 2003 Ram 1500 SLT. The single DIN stereo in it sucked, and 3 out of 4 doors produced no sound, so I purchased all new speakers, and a new double DIN touchscreen stereo from Crutchfield. Installation of the head unit went super smooth, had to cut the subdash but no problemo. After getting the head unit installed, I powered it up to test if the output (hoping the dead doors had just been a bad connector on the old stereo) but 3 out of 4 doors were still dead.
I started with the back left door, replaced the speaker, still dead. Began my tracing/troubleshooting of the wiring... No voltage to the wire. Tested continuity from the OEM harness plug behind stereo to the door (White/Red and White/Black wires) and had no continuity. I unplugged the door harness and tested both wires from the plug to the speaker, White/Red had continuity, White/Black did not. This tells me the cable in the door is damaged/busted, which brings me to my first question for you guys:
1. Is there a reason why this door harness shouldn't work in a 2003? The "fit checker" says its not compatible, but I can't understand why it will fit a 2004 but not a 2003?https://www.amazon.com/Door-Wiring-Connectors-Rear-56051931AB/dp/B0998C3K5B
I checked continuity from the frame side of the door plug back to the stereo, and both the White/Red and White/Black had no continuity. I'm trying to follow the wiring and where it may be damaged, but I'm struggling. Does the wire run from the back left door, down the pillar, forward on the left side of the driver seat, and into any sort of connector under the dash before it goes to the stereo plug? Or is it a single wire from Stereo Plug to Speaker plug? Is there any resources that may have this info, or am I praying for some mystical sage to impart some wisdom upon thee?
Thanks!
