2004 5.7 swap into a 2011 ?
Had lifter cam failure in a 2011 5.7 2500.
I have a 5.7 from an 2004 1500.
Wonder if I can make it work in the 2011?

Anything can be made to work if you have enough money, but is it worth it,in your case "no". You'd be better off finding an 09 or newer 5.7 ,or putting a cam and lifters in your existing 5.7.There's to many engine and electrical changes between a 04 and a 2011 to make it a worth while swap

I found so much metal sludge and shavings in pan. I figured I’d need a full rebuild on it
How much metal is in the VVT solenoid? If the screen on it is full of shavings, then you'd want to do a rebuild.

Bought truck off my brother
Think it was a fleet truck before he had it.
He did not maintain it at all lol
Hard to tell by your pic,but it does look like there might be some piston chunks in the pan
