2004 Hemi swap

So I've got a 2004 Ram Laramie 1500 5.7L Hemi AWD. The motor crapped out just under 280k. Im going to try buy a used motor for it.

Which year of 5.7L hemi motors will be a direct drop in? I would prefer not to have to get into PCM and wiring harness swaps, but will if i have to.

Absolute direct drop in will be 04-05 1500. Both years have EGR but not MDS. 2003 5.7 doesn't have EGR (would need to add it, custom tune it out or live with the MIL). 06-08 1500 5.7 has MDS & EGR (will work if you're leaving it stock; default mode is off, leave the solenoids in and it will run just fine OR oull the heads and solenoids, replace the lifters). 2500/3500 engine 03-08 will have neither EGR nor MDS (again would need to add EGR, custom tune it out or live with the MIL).

No, you can't use it in your truck. You'd have to literally swap the entire donor truck's worth of wiring into yours (as well as modules, cluster, etc) to turn your PCI bus truck into a CAN bus truck. THEN you could run MDS.

I have an 07 ram it blew a valve spring and it's junk so I wanted to put a non mds engine in it, what would I have to do?
