I have a 2005 2500 quad cab diesel 4x4 with just over 242,000 miles on it and have been having an issue with the shifter "sticking" when shifting out of park. I have to pull a little harder to get it into gear. Then there is no problem. I took it to my dealer and they said that the valve body needs to be replaced. Does this sound right? I was going to do this but now am told that the part is on back order, there are 80 orders before me nationwide and that FCA may not be making the part anymore. The only other option is a reman and that is about $6000. If FCA is making re-manufactured ones, where are they getting the part? No one knows. I would appreciate any ideas on how I can get this shifting issue resolved and any info on how dangerous it may be. I bought the truck new in October of 2014, so all the miles are ones that I put on it. I love it and want to keep it running smooth. Thanks in advance!

I had what sounds like the exact same problem back in 2016. I had struggled to get the tranny out of park for about a year when finally it got totally stuck in park in a shopping center parking lot. Had to have it towed to a shop, fortunately really good guys. What the problem with mine was there is a park ball detent in the transmission and it eventually wears the inner surface of the shift area so that you can't get the ball to move out of park. There is a detent Kit that replaces the ball with sealed rod. The rod then will not wear the inner surface of the shifter. The shop has to remove the transmission pan, filters, and the shift mechanism to install the fix. From my receipt here is the costs I encountered back in Dec. 2016.
Detent Kit $75.08, P/N T12749 (don't know the source or mfg...Sorry), Tranny filter kit $26.70 P/N 58613, transmission fluid Qty 6 @ $13.00 = $78.00 Labor 2.0 hrs @ $90.00 = $180
Tatals Labor $180.00, Parts & shop supplies = $186.97 HazMat = $4.86 Tax = $15.61 Total cost to me $ 387.44 OTD. I have had no failure of the transmission not shifting out of park since the fix was installed. Find an independent shop that knows what the hell they are doing and you can probably get it fixed for about 400 bucks, maybe a little more depending on labor rates.

Thanks Mike! I found a shop and it was the same thing you had. Got it fixed and working like a champ again! Thanks for the info!

Your very welcome, keep this issue in mind and if you see somebody else that is having this problem, let them know about the fix.
