2006 gas megacab

hello I am new here , I have a question about gears . I have 3.55 rears and it struggles to tows the hills with a 24ft enclosed race car trailer , total weight is about 8300lbs what gear ratio would best fit for towing and 3 hr highway trips

My 2007 had 3.73 gears and pulled nicely with loads that were lighter than that.

Personally, if you are going to haul that weight I'd go with 4:10's

My 4:10s (2500 5.7) haul loads like that very well. I agree with Maddog, might as well get the good stuff!

3.55's in an 06 megacab?? Mother of god why lol? Yeah, you have 2500 axles, need to upgrade those to at least 3.73's. I agree with the recommendation, 4.10's or 4.56's (if possible).

Don't even bother with the 3.73's. Had them in my '06 MegaCab. Truck did NOT like pulling hills towing an 8400lb travel trailer. Which is why I'm now driving a Cummins. If you're gonna swap gears don't go with anything less than 4.10's.

I have a 2008 1500 MEGACAB with only 75k on it now. I swapped in 4.56 gears. Thing became a animal! I only go 1mi to work but even putting load in my bed from 1,000lbs of pellets to towing my snowmobiles with family in the cab from Long Island to Vermont.... Makes it feel like nothing is back there. It only changed my rpm by 300rpm on the higway. Not bad... Still averaged 17-18mpg on hwy.
