I just bought a new Dodge Ram 2007 4.7 Quad Cab TRX4. I really love it, it's a gorgeous blue, has 4 wheel drive, it's the truck of my dreams! Only 46,000 miles.

But...

I am only getting 9-10 mpg in town. As far as I know it is completely stock, not lifted, no engine mods. The engine also looks really clean. at 65mph I get 15, at 75 I get 18MPG. I'm happy with the freeway miles, but this truck is not going to see the highway too often.

The dealer I got it at replaced oil, brakes, filters, and not that it matters, also put in a bed liner. No clue when the last tune up was, if ever.

I have been driving it really easy, I have a 4 mile commute each way, and 2 mile of that is a straight shot at 55 mph.

I really feel that it should be getting more like 12-13, or more. I pretty much spent all my money on the truck, and with the payments, won't have a ton of extra money for repairs, but I did get a warranty with it. Is there something possibly wrong with the truck? It drives like a new truck, only other issue is a squeaky steering wheel, nothing major.

I have a 09 4.7 and I get 14-15 around town and 20-21 highway.

Start with checking basic parts, air filter, spark plugs, proper air pressure in tires etc..

You should be getting at LEAST 13mpg around town.

12-13 in town in a pre 08 4.7 is pretty good. It's hard to see 21+ in a pre 08 4.7 though, even at hwy use, seems like the pre 08 4.7's like to be driven at 60mph and anything over that, them lose mpg. I was able to get 21 in my 05 on a trip earlier in the year, but had to set the cruise dead on 60.

The 4th gen 4.7 I rented, would see 20+ all day long on the hwy driving over 60mph.

The tires were all inflated to 35psi. They call for 50 according to the tires. I inflated them to 45psi. I'll see what kind of MPG I get on my drive to work tomorrow. The air filter is brand new.

oh, and i am getting 17ishMPG at 55mph and above, it's just that a little stop and go traffic will drop that 17 back to 10 in no time at all. Pure around town driving I am getting about 10, maybe 11 on a good day. I do live in Utah, so there are some hills I am driving on, but not too many.

Since its used and you don't know what was done to the truck it wouldn't hurt to do a full tune up

I have an 07 4.7 magnum with 56500 miles all stock other than exaust and i get about 13-14 mpg in town driving and 19-21 on highway driving so i think that shoud be what you should get so i would say check spark plugs, fuel injectors, and plug wires, also check your air flow because if it is getting too much air it will make you run at higher rpms and kill your mpgs
