I have a 2008 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 crew and the head gaskets went out at 202k. I have a chance to pick up a complete 5.7 motor out of a 2005 Ram 2wd with only 76k miles on it. Can anyone tell me if that would be an exact swap? Are electrical connections and everything the same? Would it work with my computer? New to Dodges, so I appologise for my lack of knowledge.. Can't decide to sell it or fix it.. Thank you in advance.

SO yes and no. How attached to your MDS are you? The engine bolt right in, you may have to change a couple sensors but everything will hook up EXCEPT the MDS harness to the solenoids; 05 Ram 5.7 does not have MDS. So your choices here are:
1. Throw it in, run it, live with the CEL.
2. Throw it in, use a tuner to turn off MDS, run it.
3. Pop the heads, swap to MDS cam and swap to MDS lifters on cyl 1, 4, 6 & 7 and install the solenoids, then put it all back together (requiring new head gaskets and head bolts).
