Hey guys, do any of you know if i can make my sport hood a functioning hood? Is it possible to cut out the fake ports and make them functional? Would it benefit in any way?

Thanks

It's probably a negative air zone, meaning if you opened them, they'd suck air out of the engine bay.

Stacey on "Gearz" opened them up, but they weren't functional. You can see the episode on YouTube.

A couple guys have really looked into the scoops and getting air to the filter/air box, but have found it nearly impossible.
there is an aftermarket hood with a larger center scoop which can be functional but that is the only one if I am not mistaken.
With the gains shown by Vararam intakes, you may be better off with one of those.

I cut the center part out and think it looks a little better IMO. I was looking into making them functional but I found two things, one: the setup is not too impressive and two: where the filter is located at (right above the engine) it sucks in a lot of hot air. I went with an S&B CAI which has a drop pipe that sucks up air by the wheel well. I was looking at running a tube or pipe from the S&B pipe to the front bumper (I cut the center part out from that as well) but the truck frame gets in the way. I do know S&B is working with a few guys from this forum on making the drop pipe a little more functional too.

That would be sick if you could make it functional

I tried it, didn't get anywhere. It would release a little heat but that's about it. Not worth your time.

Just get a Vararam and be done with it. I wouldn't open up those vents if I were you.

I know on the Challengers, cause some trim models they aren't functional either (I believe only the R/T and SRT8 scoops are functional) there is a kit you can buy for about $80. It has inserts with sleeves on them to direct air into the engine bay. Without the sleeves to direct the air into the engine bay, you really arent doing anything but exhausting air.

I would love to add some sort of LED lighting to match my 6K headlights and fogs.

Like most guys here have said, opening up those scoops might help with heat extraction, but I dont see any way to make them a functional part of your intake system...especially with the internal steel frame on the hood. The hood does look awesome on the truck though.

I watched the video showstopper linked me and I might end up doing what they did, but keeping the ports black. Thanks for all your input fellas!
