2009 Laramie plus TRX4? Vs TRX4

So I found a couple trucks online, one from used car dealership other from private party. The one from used car dealer has gotten me confused a bit.

The dealer lists it as a 2009 Dodge 1500 Laramie, the vin check and Carfax I ran confirms the Laramie option. When I was looking at the pics I noticed the TRX4 badging on the side and Laramie on the back. Nothing in the detailed description mention it anything about TRX4.

I’m by no means an expert especially on the Laramie because usually I can’t afford them.

So did the 2009 Laramie come with TRX4 as a package option or vice versa however you look at it?

If the dealership can’t tell me or ignorant of it all other than the badge what else is a tell tell sign it has is TRX4? Skid plates maybe? Tires appear to be 20” not 17”.

So with that hopefully answered and solved, back to my orignal reason I came.

Both are 2009s.

1500 TRX4 SLT type without lots of bells and whistles but complete tow package with aftermarket brake plus a camper shell, 92k miles, $16200 firm
Or
1500 Laramie TRX4 (assuming it’s correct), with all the Laramie bells and whistles and complete tow package with brake but without the camper shell, 130k miles. $15988 list price

Usage is daily driving, pulling travel trailer and I need the camper shell for dogs.

Apparent exterior and interior condition is the same. Haven’t been up close to either yet.

I would hope to get the Laramie low enough to purchase camper shell and still be no higher than the other but maybe not.

What would you choose?

I believe it came with the following :
17" aluminum wheels
more expensive AT tires
Better front (RED) struts (sits higher)
Skid plates
Anti Spin Diff
Tow hooks
fog lights

If the truck has 20 inch wheels, I don't think it came with the TRX4, Though, i guess anything is possible.

Can you post the vin, we can tell you for sure with the vin to answer your question, the TRX4 did indeed come on the laramie.

Yeah that’s what I thought. And the upgraded tires appear to be long gone. Those appear to be straight street and low on tread possibly as well.

It has all of the add-ons I mentioned. It's a neat truck.

I saw the skid plates etc.

So your opinion, is it worth for almost 40,000 more miles? That’s the only piece holding me back. According to Carfax looks like maintenance was done regularly. Appear to be a lot done to it prior to 5000 Miles before it was first sold which seems strange as well. Then it was sold at auction few years later. No accidents and clean title so that’s strange as well.

It has the 3.55 gears. As for the cost, personally, while it's a beautiful truck, I'd never pay that for a truck with that many miles. It's a personal preference. To much could potentially go wrong IMO. Though, don't take my word for it per se, think on it, if you think you can get the use out of it, then get 'er done. I would stick with under 100k miles on a gas if possible!

Yeah thats exactly my quandary. Nice truck with a lot more options but 130 vs 92k. 3 year difference the mileage I drive. Honestly if I could get another 60k I’d be fine though because that’s another 5.

Need the camper shell and all so regardless of miles they’d have to come down at least $1000 to cover that difference.

All said when would the price and mileage be attractive to you? If I had to guess they probably only paid 11-12 on the trade in.

Side note on the pricing. I use KBB just as one among other sites to figure out pricing. But how is it the trade in mid range is 11,800 and buy price mid is 19,000. I’m not in the car business but KBB seems way off somewhere.

To be frank, I would know the payload was maxed out for most of those miles. I know you want someone to help confirm what you really want. My opinion is quite useless, but I simply wouldn't want a truck with that many miles knowing it's had it's GVWR maxed out for god knows how many of those miles. Extra wear on the drive train, engine, suspension, etc. That said, it's a really good specced truck. this is one of those cases where it's a personal preference. However; on the good side of things. These hemi motors will easily go 250k miles. The chances of the truck actually being a problem are quite slim. I would just hate to drop 15k and then something major happen. if you can afford to prepare 3k in potential expenses after purchase, then i'd say go for it Otherwise, if you're not able to be prepared to pay for any expenses after the purchase, I think it might be on the " bad " side of a deal. hope my logic helps
