Hello all,
I have a 2009 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 and 3.55 gears. I recently had the pinion seal and bearing go out, and I was quoted $950 for a used differential. Seemed high to me, so I was wondering if I could buy a differential from a late 3rd gen to put under there.
Thanks for the help.

Weren't the 3rd Gens leaf springs on the back, all 4th Gens are a coil spring 4 link style rear end.You could probably make it work if you can weld,as I think you'd need to cut all the brackets off your existing diff, and have them welded onto to the early diff.Worth it probably not,if it was me,i'd stick with a 4th Gen diff.FYI they relocated the ABS sensors on the diffs somewhere around 2012.The 09-11's have the sensor on the front of the axle tube, the 2012+'s have it on the rear of the axle tubes, you can still use the later diffs, but you might have to extend the wiring
