I'm back after an extended health vacation. I haven't run my truck for 8-9 months while I've been recovering. I have gone out at least once a week and started it up and let it run until the engine was well heated (200'F) so I know the batteries are good and all the electronics should be.

A couple of weeks ago my factory original FOBIC stopped locking and unlocking the door. I figured it was simply the battery and got out my spare FOBIC. It worked but only if I am standing next to the truck. Both batteries bad? Not likely but I replaced them both. They still operate the same, original dead, spare works (kinda) when I'm standing by the door.

Does anyone have any idea of why the range of the FOBICs have gone to crap? I used to be able to lock my truck up from 50-60' away. Now I have to just about be touching the truck. Is there an antenna under the vehicle somewhere that fell off? Do I need my FOBICs reflashed?

Thanks!

If you stand 50' away & press the Panic button & the horn starts blaring, then it is not your FOB

If your Fobs are several years old
Open it up like you would do to replace a battery
then lift the circuit board out of the case, i would do it over a clean table
There might possible some tiny parts that have jarred loose from it

The contacts inside likely have dirt covering them
You might use a cotton swab & some rubbing alcohol to clean them

If i were you, i would watch a Youtube video or two

this goes into more detail

I bought my key fobs through this company at a damn good price

If you don't want to mess with having to get the new ones programmed
Take the circuit board out then clean the contacts & insert the old circuit board onto the new case

as i mentioned
If you stand 50' away & press the Panic button & the Ram's horn starts blaring, then it is not your FOB signal that is not reaching the Ram

But it may be the contacts in the FOB that are bad

If your attempting criticize the use of the acronym FOB
instead of FOBIC which is also an acronym for
Frequency Operated Button integrated key
or
finger operated button Ignition Key

That is OK, they all mean the same thing
