Hey guys over the past couple of days I have developed a vibration or humming noise in my 2012 Ram 1500 4wd 42,000mi. It almost sounds as if I am running a tire with an aggressive tread like a M/T.(Although I am still running stock size)
The sound seems to be most prominent around 40-50 but is present at all speeds except below 20mph where it is not noticeable. It makes no difference if I downshift or drop the truck into neutral and coast. If I roll down the window the wind noise overpowers the noise but the harmonic vibration is still present.
Only thing on the truck that is not stock is I put Bilstein 5100's set a 2.1. Upper control arms are stock. Does anyone have any ideas on what to look for or has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks!

can you tell where the noise is coming from? my first guess would be a wheel bearing going or a bad tire.

This.

Generally, a low hum is a wheel bearing whereas a higher-pitched hum is a pinion gear. If the noise is constant through acceleration and deceleration, then it's most likely a wheel bearing.

If, however, the noise directly corresponds to the drivetrain being put under load through the application of the throttle, and is of a "whirring" nature rather than a "rumble", then I would strongly suspect pinion gear or other differential wear. From your description of coasting in neutral, it doesn't sound like this is the case for your issue.

So I took it by my mechanics and he agrees with most on here that it is the front wheel bearing. I told him which one in specific it probably was (Front Left) since 2 months ago my brake caliper was dragging/partially seized. Ohhh well such is life I guess.
