FOUND THE CHIRPING NOISE – 2020 Ram 2500 Tradesman (Manual 4WD Shifter)
Posting this to help anyone chasing a random chirping noise that happens with vibration.
Truck: 2020 Ram 2500 Tradesman with manual floor-shift 4WD
Symptoms:
How I confirmed the source:
While driving in 2WD, I applied light forward pressure on the manual 4WD selector handle (did NOT shift out of 2WD).
The chirping stopped immediately.
Root cause:
The noise is coming from the manual 4WD shifter / linkage vibrating. Slight play in the linkage or detent lets it resonate and chirp over bumps or vibration. Applying pressure preloads the linkage and stops the noise.
What it’s NOT:
Next steps / fix ideas:
If you have a Tradesman with the manual 4WD floor shifter and a mysterious chirp, try this before tearing your truck apart.
Hope this saves someone time and money.

Truck: 2020 Ram 2500 Tradesman with manual floor-shift 4WD
Symptoms:
- Chirping noise while driving
- Happens with road vibration, not engine RPM
- Sounds like it’s coming from everywhere (very hard to pinpoint)

What it’s NOT:
- Not belts or pulleys
- Not suspension
- Not brakes
- Not engine noise
Next steps / fix ideas:
- Lubricate shifter pivot and underbody linkage
- Inspect/adjust linkage for excess play
- Check bushings or add isolation where needed
